Chernosky scores in Supers, Simpson spanks Midwest Mods, Bolt blows by Streeters and Adams makes long visit from US base to score in Mod main at Thunder City Speedway

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (August 28) - Kevin Adams made the more than five-hour mid-week trip to the Thunder Bay area Wednesday pay off handsomely for point chasing, as he drove from eighth on the grid to pick up the WISSOTA Modified victory at Thunder City Speedway.

He was joined in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victory lane by David Simpson, Kyle Bolt, and Cole Chernosky.

Early leader Shawn Polonoski was out front for lap one of the Modified feature, before he was overtaken by Curtis Stieh. Stieh then held the top spot for a few laps before Joel Cryderman got by for the lead.

As the battle intensified behind him, a marker tire from the corner was kicked out onto the racing surface, with the call going against Cole Chernosky.

Adams started eighth on the grid, and eventually found a line that worked for him. He drove by Cryderman to take the lead and began to pull away, as Chernosky marched back up through the field to second. Adams was comfortably in front when the yellow waved with three laps to go.

Adams put distance on Chernosky following the restart and drove on for the win. Chernosky had to settle for second, Cryderman was third, John Toppozini was fourth and Colin Chaschuk completed the top five.

Danny Young took the lead from the second row on the opening lap of what became a caution-filled WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Nathan Roy and Rick Simpson pressured him in the early going, as eighth-starter Chernosky marched toward the front.

He battled with Simpson before taking second, and then pressured Young before taking over out front. He then maintained his spot through a number of cautions, driving on for the win. In the back-and-forth war for second, Young topped Simpson, while Shawn Polonoski charged his way into fourth from 17th at the start. John Garrity rounded out the top five.

David Simpson (Dennis Orr Photo)

Simpson has simply been unstoppable in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified class this season, wherever he races, and he hit up victory lane again on his home turf Wednesday. It took him one lap past the halfway point to grab the lead from his eighth starting spot.

Early on, David Kivi held the top spot, but couldn't hold off Tanner Ulakovic, who passed him for the point.

Ulakovic, in return, couldn't protect the bottom when Simpson moved into second; Ulakovic slipped up the track in turn two and Simpson capitalized, pulling away to take the win. Ulakovic was second ahead of Kivi, Rob Groom and Kevin Monteith in the top five.

Kyle Bolt (Dennis Orr Photo)

Bolt dominated the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, starting sixth on the grid and taking just three laps to pass early leader Justin Tougas for the position. As he checked out on the field, Nathan Henny eventually claimed second. Andrew Piilo, eighth-starter Brendan Makkinga and A.J. Kellar were top-five finishers.

In the track’s Hornet division, Jesse Owen took home top honors.
