GRAND FORKS, ND (August 30) - The 70th regular season of racing action is in the books at River Cities Speedway, as five feature winners and three points champions were crowned in another exciting night at the Bullring.

Trey Hess won his first WISSOTA Street Stock championship before Austin Hunter won his third WISSOTA Midwest Modified title. Dustin Strand went on to win his seventh Late Model crown after winning his eighth feature of the season.

Hess and Seth Klostreich brought the 20-lap Street Stock track championship to green. Hess led in the first set of turns while Weston Ramsrud moved into second past Klostreich.

Ramsrud then pulled even with Hess on lap two as the pair continued to battle door-to-door until the fifth lap, when Ramsrud took the lead in turn two on lap six. Klostreich made contact with Hess in turn two with Hess spinning. Klostreich was charged with the caution and sent to the tail.

On the restart, Cole Greseth moved past Hess into second and stalked Ramsrud as the lead duo pulled away from the rest of the pack. Greseth did to Ramsrud as Ramsrud did to Hess before the caution, pulling even on numerous occasions, though Ramsrud held on to the lead through the midway point.

With four to go, the leaders came upon lapped traffic. Ramsrud made a few great moves in traffic to hold on to the lead, and went on to the victory over Greseth, Hess, John Halvorson and Greg Jose in the top five. Hess clinched the points title with his third-place run, the first of his career.

Jamie Dietzler (Mike Spieker Photo)

Austin Hunter and Jamie Dietzler led the 20-lap Midwest Modified championship feature at the start of the race. Battling for the race win and the overall points championship, Dietzler led early with Hunter no more than a couple of car lengths back in the opening laps.

Dietzler had just caught the rear of the field on lap 10 when a caution saved him from having to maneuver through traffic. It took a couple tries to get the race restarted at the lap 10 mark, as track crews cleared debris. The first restart attempt was followed by a botched restart on the second attempt.

The biggest mover at this point, however, was 16th-starter MaKenna Romuld. Romuld, the WISSOTA National Midwest Modified Rookie of the Year point leader, went from 12th to seventh on the restart, and Matt Schow moved past Hunter into second before another debris caution slowed the race one last time.

Dietzler and Schow drove off a bit from the rest of the field while Hunter held off Lance Schill for third. Dietzler held off a hard-charging Matt Schow in the closing laps to win the feature by inches. Third-place finisher Austin Hunter won the points title by one over Dietzler, the third of his career at the Bullring. Schill and Cylen Vargason were fourth and fifth.

Dustin Strand (Mike Spieker Photo)

Dustin Strand and Brad Seng paced the 20-laps WISSOTA Late Model track championship main event to the stripe to start the race. Strand led the opening lap over Seng and Joey Pederson.

Strand was about a half straightaway ahead before he encountered heavy lapped traffic on lap six. Strand split a pair of lapped cars on lap seven to open up an even larger lead before a caution at the completion of the lap.

Pederson moved into second when the race resumed, though Strand, with a clear race track in front of him, rebuilt his straightaway advantage in the opening laps after the caution.

Strand led through the midway point before again encountering traffic with eight to go. Strand nearly missed the entrance to turn one with four to go, but was able to regroup without losing much ground.

Strand continued on for his eighth Late Model victory at the speedway this season, clinching the track and points titles. Pederson, Seng, Shane Edginton, and Brody Troftgruben completed the top five.

Racing action continues next week as the 18th annual John Seitz Memorial kicks off Thursday with the rescheduled running of the Howie Schill Memorial Thursday night. Friday and Saturday will be highlighted by the Street Stock Tour finale, the Al Delaine Memorial, and the 92-lap, $9,200-to-win John Seitz Memorial on Saturday.
