Anderson, Blaeser and Koehler win fair week races and Vogel scores Street Stock series win at Red Cedar on Friday

By Brent Creaser

MENOMONIE, WI (July 26) - The second night of Dunn County Fair week action brought more entertaining races and thrilling finishes for race fans on hand. The DRC Street Stock Series was the headlining special for the program.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners standing in victory lane - as they looked at the glow from the multi-colored lights of the festive midway - included Ashley Anderson, Nick Koehler, Kaden Blaeser, and Justin Vogel.

Jake Stai gained early control in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and looked as if he might run away and hide with the feature event. Koehler had something to say about that, as he found the high side of the speedway and started to charge forward. He got by Stai and drove into the lead.

Derek Haas started to reel in the leaders and quickly moved past Stai into second, as his car started to fade. Haas closed on Koehler and put heavy pressure on him, but could never get by. Koehler drove away with the win followed by Haas, Shadow Kitchner, Joey Jensen and Blake Adams in the top five.

Veteran Danny Thomas jumped out to the early lead in the WISSOTA Modified feature. Thomas set sail and ran the low side of the speedway, while Kaden Blaeser found the extreme outside of the speedway to his car’s liking and pressured Thomas for the lead. Blaeser cruised by into the lead, as Kennedy Swan jumped to the outside past Thomas into second and set her sights on Blaeser. Kevin Adams also started to charge toward Swan and Blaeser.

Swan and Adams caught Blaeser and it looked as if it was going to be a fantastic finish; with four to go, Adams was hampered with a flat right rear tire, which drew the caution flag and set up a shootout to the end.

Blaeser got the jump at the start, with Swan close behind. Swan pulled even in turns three and four and attempted to slide past Blaeser, but Blaeser accelerated back by and off to the win. He was followed by Swan, Mike Anderson, Shane Halopka and Danny Thomas.

Brett Shafer took command on the initial start of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, and looked extremely strong as Ashley Anderson began to work the high side of the speedway. Ashley cruised into second place and set his sight on Shafer.

By the midway point, Anderson was right on Schafer and made his move for the lead. Anderson took control and never looked back. Shafer, Rick Hanested, John Kaanta and A.J. Diemel completed the top five.

Justin Vogel (Brent Creaser Photo)

In the Dirt Race Central WISSOTA Street Stock headliner, Cody Kummer and Hunter VanGilder led the field to green. Kummer was looking to double up on the weekend as he took the early lead. VanGilder was surrounded by the likes of Justin Vogel and Kyle Gennet. Kummer continued to lead, as Vogel and Genett battled for second. Vogel took command of the spot and started his charge to the front. Vogel grabbed the high side and ran down Kummer, and the two ran side by side for multiple laps. Vogel won the battle and the race, followed by Kummer, Genett, VanGilder and Andrew Hanson.

Jon Schutts won the RCS Hornets, as he swept by leader Alana Karis midway through the race and never looked back.

The speedway is off next week and will return to action on August 9.
