Arment amps up his Late Model fans at Brown County while Stearns, Hansen, Broksieck and Kopecky claim other Friday features

ABERDEEN, SD (July 26) - Another night of racing action took place at Brown County Speedway Friday night. While it was a scorcher throughout the day, by race time there was a nice breeze and plenty of racing action. There were 76 drivers in the pits, all vying for their own spots in victory lane.

Scott Hansen, Mike Stearns, Maria Broksieck, Brad Kopecky and Kent Arment topped their respective WISSOTA Dirt Track Series classes to garner wins July 26.

Broksieck and Jayden Michaelsohn brought the field to the green flag in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, but it was short-lived as Kyle Bertram spun in turn one. There was a complete restart, with Broksieck the early leader. Chris Serr found his way into second on lap four.

The track was bottom dominant, with a few drivers riding the cushion. Broksieck was the class of the field as she opened a straightaway lead. With eight to go, she began to work through lapped traffic before a lap-10 caution for a Braden Brauer spin.

Broksieck led the restart, as Bogh and Serr began to make moves by her. The racing was clean and Broksieck fended off Serr to score the win, which was her first at BCS in 2024.

Jodie Michaelsohn, Bogh, and Jayden Michaelsohn were top-five finishers.

Scott Hansen and Eric Cease sat on the front row of the 18-car WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature, with Hansen grabbing the early lead. The field had good side-by-side battles until lap three, when James Irwin spun in turn one and drew the yellow.

As he spun the track lights in turns one and two went out; after a short delay, drivers decided to continue the program without them.

With 12 to go, Hansen led with Dawson Zabel and Chad Williamson in tow. As they went into turn one, Zabel started railing the cushion and began to make some headway on Hansen. The leaders were in traffic with only five laps remaining.

Zabel was hustling on the high side, trying to get past Hansen, but it was to no avail as Hansen rolled on to grab his first win at BCS in 2024. Williamson, Taylor Schmidt and Jarod Klein completed the top five.

The 11-car WISSOTA Modified field was led to green by Kent Arment and Tony Konold. The front duo battled side by side for the opening three laps, with Konold taking control. Caution struck on lap four with Tyler Gefroh spinning in turn one.

Mike Stearns powered from fifth into second in one lap after the restart. Though Konold had a large lead, he began to navigate heavy lapped traffic with eight to go. Stearns quickly closed in, and within two laps Stearns was on Konold’s bumper as they finally cleared the lapped traffic. The open track gave Stearns an opportunity to throw a slider, but there was contact between him and Konold, which drew a yellow and the call went against Konold, sending him to the rear with only five to go.

On what was the final restart, Jesse Young and Dylan Zabel were the new challengers for Stearns. Zabel had a few big runs at Stearns down the straightaways, but never could get a big enough run to make a bid for the lead. Stearns held on to grab another win at BCS this year. Arment, Jesse Young and Garrett Gross were top-five finishers.

Kaden Kampa and Matt Johnson sat on the front row of the 16-car WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Johnson grabbing the early advantage. Johnson’s lead was short-lived as Brad Kopecky, who started fourth, drove by on lap four.

The leaders began to work through lapped traffic about lap seven, and Kopecky made great moves that gave him a huge lead. With nine to go, Mark Abeln and Jeremy North made contact, sending North spinning and collecting Dom Menzia; North’s night was done.

On the ensuing restart, the field sprawled out as Abeln got into Johnson going into turn one, which caused a multi-car pileup.

All cars were able to continue, and Stewart Schipke took full advantage to move to second and battle with Kopecky. Kopecky was too good on the cushion, however, and checked out on him. Kopecky went on to score the win, which was his first-ever win at BCS. Schipke, Johnson, 10th-starter Derek Zastrow and 12th-starter Kyle Elsen completed the top five.

The final feature of the night was for the WISSOTA Late Models, with 14 drivers in attendance. Mike Jager and Nick Schmidt brought the field to green, with Jager leading the opening circuit.

Jager’s lead was short-lived, as Kent Arment flew by on the second lap to grab the lead. Arment checked out on the field and began to catch the rear of the field on lap four, making quick work of lapped traffic.

Arment had his car on rails; with 12 laps to go, he had already lapped every car up to the top five. A caution flew with six to go after Josh Skorczewski and Mike Stearns made contact, sending Skorczewski off the top of turn three. Stearns was sent to the tail.

On the restart, Dustin Arthur and Skorczewski finally got a chance at Arment, but neither of them had anything for him as Arment scored his second win of the year at BCS. Skorczewski, Arthur, Chase Gelling, and Mike Jager finished in the top five.
