Bellefeuille, Sabraski, Boston, Holtquist and Patrin put up winning efforts on a steamy Saturday at Ogilvie Raceway

By Tami Jo Kuehn

OGILVIE, MN (July 27) - It was a hot and steamy afternoon as fans and drivers arrived at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, and the racing was nearly as hot as the weather.

The FastLane Motorsports Super Stock Series was on hand for their makeup event and 31 Supers joined the night’s event.

WISSOTA winners included Cole Boston, Robert Holtquist, Payson Patrin, Jody Bellefeuille and Shane Sabraski.

Ben Lewis was the early leader as the WISSOTA Midwest Mods kicked off the night’s action. Ashley Boyum, Ryan Putnam and William Moelter raced three-wide for second until Putnam dropped back from the fight. Boyum and Moelter moved alongside Lewis, making it three wide for the lead, before Lewis was shuffled back; Boyum and Moelter remained glued to one another in their battle for the lead.

Cole Boston was on the move through traffic from his seventh starting spot. He took second and began to track down Moelter, who was now in the lead. Boston ran low on the track, but then shot to the high groove to slide by the leader. Boston’s slider was a success as he took the lead and separated himself from the field.

Drivers began to settle into position over the closing laps as Boston took the win. Moelter, Boyum, David Swearingen and Putnam completed the top five.

Shane Sabraski (Mark Anderson Photo)

In the 26-car WISSOTA Super Stock feature, Sabraski and Dylan Nelson brought the drivers to the line, with Sabraski the early leader. Dexton Koch moved into second, with Nelson still close. Koch and Nelson moved in on Sabraski, and the top three were three wide in the turn. Nelson exited the corner with the lead, but Sabraski didn’t let Nelson get away.

Koch began to work Sabraski for second, which allowed Nelson to break away.

Following a caution, Nelson was in command out front, as Sabraski dove low to his inside. Nelson and Sabraski were nose to nose until Sabraski pulled ahead and Nelson found company in Koch and Dave Mass. Koch, Mass and Nelson were nearly three wide for second as Mass made his way past, and then alongside Sabraski. With Mass low, Sabraski ran high, and a few times, Nelson tried to split the difference as they fought for first. With just two laps to go, the top drivers had slower traffic in their view, but Sabraski held strong and took the win. Dylan Nelson, Koch, Matthew Larson and Austin Niemeyer were top-five finishers.

Robert Holtquist (Mark Anderson Photo)

Maeghan Milz and Robert Holtquist were door to door at the line when the WISSOTA Mod Fours went green, and after a couple of laps, Holtquist took the point. Holtquist sped away from the field as Blake Hawker moved alongside Milz. They battled side by side for the runner-up position as Tyler Larson closed in. Hawker, Milz and Larson were nearly three wide, before Hawker ran away with second. Larson and Milz remained glued to one another for the remainder of the race. As the checkered flag waved, Holtquist snagged the win with Hawker, Larson, Milz and Doug Frederick rounding out the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models rolled onto the track surface with Dylan Kromschroeder and Don Shaw on the first row. As the green waved, Sabraski moved from fourth to first before the first lap was scored, and immediately sped away with the point. Shaw held onto second with Josh Zimpel in third.

As the race progressed, Sabraski and others in the top five began to weave their way through lapped traffic, but he couldn’t be stopped, as he picked up his second win of the night. Shaw, Mass, Zimpel and Kromschroeder as the finishers.

Payson Patrin (Mark Anderson Photo)

Payson Patrin, Tony Jenson and Jenna Hagemann battled three wide for first as the green waved for the WISSOTA Hornet feature. After a short battle, Patrin claimed the lead with Jenson and Hagemann in tow. The top three drivers kept close, but had a big lead over the remaining cars of Randy Jacoboski and Emily Acciari. The drivers remained in that exact order during the remaining laps and Patrin grabbed the win. Jenson, Hagemann, Jacoboski, and Acciari completed the top five.

Jody Bellefeuille (Mark Anderson Photo)

The WISSOTA Modifieds closed out the night’s program. Eric Lamm and Travis Schulte led the field to the green, and sped off as Jody Bellefeuille ran the middle groove and made the battle nearly three wide. Lamm dropped from the battle as Schulte and Bellefeuille continued on; Bellefeuille was able to get by for the lead. Sabraski made his way to second while Clayton Wagamon challenged Schulte for third. Wagamon worked the low groove and battled Sabraski for second, but Sabraski held the position.

With lapped traffic playing a part, Wagamon regained the spot, but Sabraski didn’t back down. Just three laps remained with Bellefeuille in command, though Wagamon and Sabraski cut into his lead significantly. As the checkers were in sight, Wagamon raced along the track wall, shot alongside the leader, and then in last effort, Wagamon dropped down a groove and gave one final push at the finish line. Bellefeuille hung on, winning by 0.121 over Wagamon. Sabraski, Landon Atkinson and Jeremy Nelson finished in the top five.

Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will take next Saturday off, but will be back in action twice the following week. The Northern Storm series will stop by the raceway on Tuesday, August 6, with the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series in action alongside Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds. Saturday night will be highlighted by a regular program and the popular Bike Giveaway Night for kids.
