Lotta fans squeeze in on a hot Friday night to watch Johnson, Martini, Henkemeyer, Pogones and Patrin post Princeton wins

PRINCETON, MN (July 26) - It was a hot and breezy night at Princeton Speedway, but a huge crowd of fans gathered to watch WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action take place at the quarter-mile bullring.

It was Kids Night along with Meet the Drivers Night - kids went home with extra treats, while Tommy Pogones, Bud Martini, Jordan Henkemeyer, J.T. Johnson, Tommy Bawden and Payson Patrin went home with victory lane hardware.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were led to green by Braedyn Fleck and Rachel Boston. They battled door to door as the green waved, with Charlie Shiek close behind. After a few laps, the first caution waved; Shiek brought the drivers back to green, with Tommy Pogones applying pressure. Pogones made the move to the top point as Levi Randt took second and Kyle Howland slid into third.

With just two laps to go, another caution was triggered and Pogones’ comfortable lead was erased. Pogones brought the drivers back to green and held the position to take the win. Howland, Randt, Shiek and Steve Eggersgluess completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Scott Splittstoesser and Bud Martini held the front row for the start, with Splittstoesser grabbing the initial lead. Drivers battled two and three-wide for position, as Martini got by Splittstoesser into the lead.

Martini separated himself from the competition as ninth-starter Jason VandeKamp moved his way to third. With a handful of laps to go, the yellow flag waved; as the race resumed, Splittstoesser and VandeKamp were close behind Martini in the lead, but Martini held on by a thread.

A final caution was triggered and when the green reappeared, Splittstoesser raced door to door with Martini. They were nose to nose at the line, and when the checkers waved, Martini was the winner by 0.1 seconds ahead of Splittstoesser. VandeKamp, Adam Bohlman and Landyn Randt finished in the top five.

Max Nelson and Jordan Henkemeyer brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks to green, and Henkemeyer grabbed the immediate lead.

Following an early caution, second through sixth-place drivers were close as they vied for top-five spots. Dustin Nelson moved into second with Austin Niemeyer and Dexton Koch in a battle for third.

Out front, Henkemeyer stretched his lead as the laps went by, with Nelson in a comfortable second. Koch secured third and looked ahead at the leaders with a few laps to go. Henkemeyer could not be caught, however, as he drove to the win ahead of Dustin Nelson, Koch, Niemeyer and Nelson in the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were next on the agenda, with Jeff Patchen the early leader. Brennan Gave put pressure on Patchen and they were door to door for first, as Eric Lamm moved into battle.

A couple cautions reset the field, with Gave in command as the race resumed. J.T. Johnson challenged Gave and soon nosed ahead with the lead. Johnson slowly stretched the lead as Gave and Lamm remained glued to one another for second. They raced close during the closing laps, as out front of the pack, Johnson took the win. Gave, Lamm, Zach Benson and Dave Cain completed the top five.

A solid field of 21 WISSOTA Mod Fours took the green, with Robert Holtquist the early leader. He had Connor Bruss and Tommy Bawden challenging, and Bruss, the youngest driver in the field, edged out the lead. Bawden also got by Holtquist and began to challenge Bruss to his inside for the top spot. Bawden soon moved ahead and grabbed the point.

Following a caution, contact occurred between multiple drivers and the field ground to a halt under red. After the incident was cleared, Bawden brought the drivers back to green and led the remaining laps for the win. Bruss, Casey Traxler, Dustin Holtquist and Dean Larson were top-five finishers.

The WISSOTA Hornets closed out the night with Russell Kiker, Jr. and Payson Patrin on row one. Patrin took the lead at the end of lap one with Kiker, Jr. holding second. Tony Jenson and Jenna Hagemann put pressure on Kiker, Jr., but he held second. Patrin stretched the lead as Hagemann made the pass for second and Jenson soon followed. As the race ended, Patrin remained in charge and took the win with Hagemann, Jenson, Kiker, Jr. and Brandon Nyberg in the top five.

Next Friday, Princeton Speedway has the night off, before they’re back in action twice the following week. Monday August 5, the Northern Storm will kick off its weeklong events at Princeton, highlighted by the WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series. Midwest Modifieds and Modifieds are also in action. Friday, August 9, there will be racing as part of the Mille Lacs County Fair. NVSR Vintage Cars and MN Micro Sprints join the program, alongside the WISSOTA Mod Fours, Super Stocks, Hornets and Street Stocks.
