By Shannon Reigel

GRAND RAPIDS, MN (July 11) - Grand Rapids Speedway held the Prelude to the Tommy Waseleski Memorial and Salute the Troops night Thursday.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Skeeter Estey, Cole Chernosky, Dustin Nelson, David Simpson, Jake Smith, and Tristen McLynn.

Sam Blevins and Scott Thompson led the pack of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green flag. The racers had a rough race, with several cautions. David Simpson persevered and took the top spot for his 11th win of the season. Mervin Castle battled with Mikey Blevins for part of the race, and secured second. Mikey Blevins, who started in eighth, was third, while 10th starter Tim Jackson was fourth. Fourteenth-starter Darrin Lawler held off Justin Feltus for fifth.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to green by Rick Simpson and Matt Sparby. They battled each other for the top spot before a caution regrouped the field.

Dustin Nelson took advantage following the restart, and wasted no time in stealing the lead. Sparby secured second from Simpson, and Maxwell Dondelinger was able to keep fourth from Andy LaBarge. Dalton Carlson challenged LaBarge for fifth, but ran out of time to get by for the spot. Nelson drove to the win ahead of Sparby, Simpson, Dondelinger, and LaBarge in the top five.

Twenty-four WISSOTA Late Models were led to the green by Billy Kendall and Danny Vang, with Skeeter Estey and Tommy Waseleski, Jr. behind. Kendall was the initial leader, with pressure from Estey for the top spot for a few laps; Estey quickly secured the lead. Jeff Provinzino raced forward from fifth and challenged Waseleski; after displacing Waseleski, he then stole second.

Out front, Estey drove to the big victory, with Provinzino second. Kyle Peterlin was third, Jeff Massingill improved eight spots to fourth, and Cole Searing completed his run from ninth in fifth.

The WISSOTA Modifieds rolled onto the track, with Ryan Jensen and Josh Beaulieu leading the field from the front row, and Charlie Castle and Kevin Adams in row two. At the drop of the green, Jensen was the early leader, while Castle, Adams, and Beaulieu raced three wide for positions. Adams took charge out front for a few laps while Bob Broking raced ahead. Three cautions almost back to back changed the lineup by eliminating some competitors.

Following the restart, fifth-starter Cole Chernosky and eighth-starter Shane Sabraski battled for the lead. Chernosky secured the top spot, but Sabraski did not give in too quickly. Broking was third and ninth-starter Bryce Borgen moved into fourth. Chernosky picked up the win, followed by Sabraski, Broking, Borgen, and Beaulieu in the top five.

Brandon Puschinsky and Justin Barsness led the WISSOTA Pure Stocks on track for what was a caution-free feature. On green, Jake Smith quickly drove low on Puschinsky and Barsness and took off into the lead. Austin Carlson then challenged Barsness and Puschinsky slipped into second. Eighth-starter Chaston Finckbone began to challenge Barsness for third and quickly moved around. Smith picked up the eventual win, with Carlson, Finckbone, Barsness and Puschinsky in the top five.

The field of 19 WISSOTA Hornets were led to green by Asher Tuttle and Brady Fosso, with Makayla LaBarge and Ryker Larson behind. The drivers had two cautions for spun racers, with Fosso shaking out as the early leader. Tuttle raced in second, LaBarge was third, Michael Lefler raced to fourth and Tristen McLynn battled with Larson for fifth. McLynn continued his charge, moving into the lead following a battle with Fosso. McLynn was victorious ahead of Fosso, Trenton Beel, Ian Vanvickle and Tuttle in the top five.
