CRARY, ND (July 13) - Devils Lake Speedway hosted its annual Golden Hammer Classic for the NLRA WISSOTA Late Models Saturday. Nearly 30 Late Models were on hand for the sixth annual event, with WISSOTA Street Stocks and Midwest Mods also part of the program. The track’s Pure Stock class also supported the show.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Tyler Peterson, Ryne Uhrich, and Trey Hess.

Joey Pederson took the lead in the early stages of the WISSOTA Late Model race, sticking out front for the first nine laps before Tyler Peterson got by. Peterson was challenged by Jason Strand about the midpoint of the race; just as they were about to hit lapped traffic, the caution flag came out on several occasions. Jason Strand then fell to Mike Greseth, who took over second. Greseth set his sights on Peterson for the lead, but Peterson won at the line over Greseth for his first Golden Hammer. Strand was third, Matt Gilbertson advanced 11 positions to finish fourth, and Brad Seng was fifth. The hard charger for the night was Shane Edginton, who advanced 17 spots for a sixth-place finish.

Ryne Uhrich took an early lead in the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature and held on for his first win in the division. Uhrich had not seen victory lane since his days in the WISSOTA Street Stock division. Randy Thompson was second, while Austin Hunter finished third. Cylen Vargason ran in second for much of the race until a few cautions came out; he lost his momentum and fell back to a respectable fourth-place finish. Jaden Varnson rounded out the top five.

In the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Trey Hess got a lucky break in the feature, while Braden Brauer suffered a heartbreaker. Brauer was out for a Saturday night cruise when his flywheel snapped with three laps to go, causing him to retire from the race. Hess took the checkered flag with Drew Peterson finishing second, and Stoney Kruk in third.

In the Pure Stocks, Joe Armstrong won the feature.
