As Brown County puts a wrap on May, victory lane visitor list includes Good, Arment, Abeln, Schmidt and Rossow

ABERDEEN, SD (May 31) - Brown County Speedway hosted a full night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action on Friday night, May 31. Jayson Good, Kent Arment, Mark Abeln, Taylor Schmidt, and Andy Rossow finished the night’s program in victory lane.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Schmidt started from the pole, gaining the advantage over Eric Cease and Nick Perry, who battled each other for second. With three laps scored, Perry moved into second and tried to track down Schmidt.

At the halfway point, Schmidt began to struggle with the handling on his No. 15, and Perry moved in to challenge for the top spot as the front duo began to work their way through lapped traffic. Schmidt continued to hold the advantage, however, with Perry close behind in second, Scott Hansen third, Todd Stark was fourth and Brennon Weight now in the top five.

Schmidt drove on to grab the win in the caution-free event, scoring the victory ahead of Perry, Hansen, Stark and Weight in the top five.

Andy Rossow (Cody Papke Photo)

Michael Bogh and Wyatt Brooker led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to the green flag for their feature event, with Andy Rossow and Maria Broksieck moving into the top two positions before the first lap was complete. Bogh was third, while Jayden Michaelsohn moved into fourth.

With three laps down, Broksieck moved to the inside of Rossow for the lead, as they tried to navigate lapped traffic just ahead. The result was a melee, with Bogh having to pit for a flat and Chris Serr spun along the high side. The leaders were restored to their positions.

The field was reracked with 10 to go, with Rossow leading the way. With Rossow up top, Broksieck battled for the lead along the low lane, taking the slight lead to complete the lap before spinning solo in turns one and two.

Rossow led the remaining laps to the checkered flag, grabbing the win ahead of Jayden Michaelsohn, Serr, Jodie Michaelsohn and Cory Moser in the top five.

Kent Arment (Cody Papke Photo)

After a first-lap yellow stalled the field of WISSOTA Modifieds, Kent Arment was the early leader ahead of a side-by-side battle for second between Chaun Peterson and Garrett Gross. Using the high side to advance from his eighth starting spot, Mike Stearns slipped off the banking and spun, causing a caution with one lap complete.

Arment led the field back to the green, but it was all for naught as another caution fell before the lap could be complete.

Following the restart, Arment rocketed into the lead once more, as Peterson grabbed second. Stearns was on a mission farther back in the field, as he was back into third with five laps complete, ahead of Patrick Adler and Scott Ward.

One lap later Peterson slipped off the banking, allowing Stearns to zip by into second. Arment held nearly a 2.5-second advantage as the field came to the halfway point, as the leaders began to try to navigate dicey lapped traffic. Peterson again was hung up along the high side with seven laps to go and the yellow flag flew.

Arment led Stearns and Ward back to the green in the top three. Stearns was able to challenge Arment to his inside for several laps, but Arment’s high line was a tick faster Friday and he took the victory. Stearns was second, Ward was third, Gross finished fourth and Adler completed the top five.

Mark Abeln (Cody Papke Photo)

In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Mark Abeln led from flag to flag for the victory, the first of the season for the Groton, South Dakota driver. In the early laps, with Abeln out front, it was three and four wide for second on back. Nathan Grehl shook out into second, Derek Zastrow was third, Jeremy North was fourth and Stewart Schipke was in fifth.

Grehl was side by side with Abeln with seven laps scored, although Abeln regained the advantage one lap later as Grehl retired with a flat tire. North was second, Zastrow was third, Schipke was fourth and Kody Lehr cracked the top five. Zastrow spun with five laps to go and the field was reset.

Abeln moved back out to the lead following the restart and took the win ahead of Jeremy North, Schipke, Lehr and 11th-starter Bryson North in the top five.

Jayson Good (Cody Papke Photo)

Arment and Pat Weisgram led the WISSOTA Late Models to the green flag, with Arment the early leader. Chase Gelling moved by Weisgram into second with a giant slider, making contact with Weisgram. Trevor Anderson moved to the bottom and took second from Gelling about a lap later, with Jayson Good close behind.

Good was on the move, racing into the runner-up spot about a lap later, and setting out after Arment. A caution regrouped the field.

Arment led the field back to green, with Good to the inside of row two and Anderson to the outside. Chad Becker was up to fourth and Gelling was fifth. When the green dropped, Good was side by side with Arment to complete the lap and took the spot a half lap later. As Good moved away from Arment, Becker was third, Cole Searing was up to fourth and Anderson was fifth.

At the halfway point, Good had a healthy 1.3-second advantage, as the field began to work through lapped traffic. Becker began to close quickly on Arment for second, with Searing still in fourth and now Josh Skorczewski in fifth.

With six to go, Good began to struggle to get by a lapped car and Arment pounced, drawing to within less than half a second. Becker was third, Searing was fourth and Skorczewski held fifth.

With one to go, lapped traffic was an issue once again, allowing Arment to close within inches of Good. As they crossed the finish line, Good’s advantage was just .062 and he edged out Arment for the victory. Becker completed his drive from ninth in third, Searing was fourth, and Skorczewski was fifth.
