Sabraski, Gerdes, Schow, Agen and Rohner roll into victory lane Saturday at I-94 Speedway

By Ron Krog

FERGUS FALLS, MN (May 4) - Fans at I-94 emr Speedway were treated to another great night of racing Saturday, as a 178 cars hit the track for the second half of the opening doubleheader weekend.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Ty Agen, Matt Schow, Brady Gerdes, Jeff Rohner, and Shane Sabraski. Larry Samuelson was victorious in the Gen X Late Model class.

In the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, it was a battle between Ethan Beckler and Joe Martin early on, as they fought hard back and forth for top honors. Soon Eric Riley came charging in to take control, but he had company as Ty Agen and Braden Brauer closed in. Agen was able to work the low side of the track and grab the lead with eight laps to go. He drove on to the victory, followed by Riley and Brauer close behind. Kyle Anderson and Nick Shumansky completed the top five.

A monster field of 43 hard-charging WISSOTA Midwest Mods came out, with guns a blazing. The 28-car feature began with Ron Saurer in the early lead, as he and Ryan Schow swapped spots before Schow secured the position. As the laps counted down Matt Schow and Brennan Weight moved in and ran in first and second, and that’s how they finished. Ninth-starter Corey Storck finished third and Lucas Rodin came from 13th to finish fourth. Ryan Schow lost some spots and finished fifth.

Matt Dittman and Jeff Rohner continued to dominate the WISSOTA Hornets Saturday night, as Rohner won for the second straight night over the 17-car field. Payson Patrin ran a solid second, followed by Dittman. Chase Pourrier had a very nice run to take home fourth, and Alex Aderman was fifth.

Another good field of WISSOTA Super Stocks was present, with 20 on hand — including many expected to chase the national point title. Matt Sparby is one of those guys that really makes it tough on the competition when he shows up to race, and not surprisingly, he and Bailey Rosch fought hard for the lead early. Multi-time National Champion Shane Sabraski found an opening and grabbed the lead, looking like he might run off with the victory. However, with three laps to go Dexton Koch caught Sabraski in traffic and took the lead, before a caution reset the field and Sabraski got his spot back.

On the restart Sabraski got a good run and held on for his second Super Stock win of the weekend. Trevor Nelson was very fast again in third, with Dylan Nelson close behind in fourth and 20th-starter James Trantina completing the top five.

The WISSOTA Mods are always a treat at I-94 and with 29 good drivers in the pits, you knew it was going to get pretty wild. The feature started out with Travis Saurer taking charge early, as he dusted the wall in all four corners. Brady Gereds was dialed in and in a few laps he was under Saurer and took the lead. As usual Don Eischens was in the thick of things as well, and he eventually took over second. Gerdes drove on to the victory, Eischens settled for second, Saurer was third, Tanner Williamson was fourth and Joseph Thomas completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models have a lot of new faces this year and they are not exactly rookies. Shane Sabraski and Lee Grosz are just two examples and they were fighting for the lead up front early on, with Sabraski taking charge. The 25-car feature was really rolling along and race leader Sabraski started to come into a bunch of lapped traffic. All of a sudden Grosz, Cole Schill, Shane Edginton, and Dave Mass were swarming Sabraski, with Kollin Hibdon and Cole Searing trying to move forward as well. The last four laps were as good of a Late Model finish as I have ever seen at I-94, and Sabraski came out on top for his first-ever Late Model victory. Edginton, Schill, Grosz and Mass completed the top five.

Congratulations to Larry Samuelson, who won his first Gen X Late Model feature.

I-94 thanks the fans for their great support in not the greatest of weather conditions this past weekend. You know it was cold when they nearly drank us out of coffee and hot chocolate.

Friday, May 10 will be the WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series along with WISSOTA Streets, Midwest Mods, Mods, Hornets and the Gen X Late Models.
