Mahder, Anderson, Spacek, Simpson and Kummer carry the night Friday at Red Cedar Speedway

MENOMONIE, WI (May 17) - It was Heroes Night at Red Cedar Speedway this past Friday, where the speedway honored all police, fire, EMS and first responders.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included David Simpson, Cody Kummer, Terran Spacek, Mike Anderson and Chad Mahder.

Aaron Wilson and Robbie Johnson led the field to green in the WISSOTA Late Model division, but a quick move spurred Jim Carlson out into the early lead. Chad Mahder did not waste any time from his seventh starting position, and within a lap Mahder was challenging for the lead.

Just a short time later he took full command and began to pull away. Carlson settled into second while John Kaanta and Buddy Hanestad began to move forward. The two moved past Wilson into the top five, but did not have enough to close on the leaders.

Mahder took the win followed by Carlson, Kaanta, Hanestad and Wilson.

Travis Anderson took the early lead in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division over Reese Schlosser. Anderson started to dominate the event with a commanding lead.

Behind Anderson, David Simpson and Brady Larson began to battle. Simpson surpassed Larson and mounted a charge toward Anderson, shrinking the lead lap after lap. With a few laps remaining Simpson was within striking distance; as the two took the white flag, Anderson remained the leader, but a small slipup by Anderson in turns three and four allowed Simpson to make his move. Simpson drove on to win by a small margin over Anderson. Brady Larson was third, followed by William Moelter and Jesse Bryan.

Kevin Adams started from the front row and took early command of the WISSOTA Modified feature. Adams set a torrid pace and looked to be well on his way to another feature win at the speedway. Mike Anderson and Cory Mahder moved up through the field and started to close in on Adams, as Adams started to deal with lapped traffic. Anderson closed to the rear bumper of Adams as they approached a pack of slower cars.

Anderson shot to the inside and made his move with a lap remaining to secure the lead. Adams made one last charge to the outside on the final lap to try to take back the lead, but it was not enough. Anderson drove on to the win followed by Adams, Mahder, Shane Halopka and Kennedy Swan.

The WISSOTA Super Stock division continued their streak of tight racing upfront as Kolby Kiehl took the lead to start the main event. Behind Kiehl, Rick Simpson, Jesse Redetzke and Terran Spacek engaged in a great battle for position lap after lap, with Spacek emerging into second. Spacek set his sights on Kiehl, did not waste any time closing in on him, and made his move for the lead shortly after. Spacek took over out front and never looked back as he took the win followed by Kiehl, Simpson, Redetzke and a hard-charging Alex Myers.

Gunnar Watkins and Dylan Baskin battled early in the WISSOTA Street Stock division. Watkins emerged as the leader and looked very strong out front. He set a torrid pace as Kyle Genett and Cody Kummer raced side by side for second. The two swapped spots multiple times as they closed in on Watkins, and Jeff Nowak also reeled in the leaders.

As the laps wound down, Kummer secured second from Genett and charged toward Watkins; Kummer shot to the low side and drove past for the lead. Watkins tried to cross over, but Kummer was too much. Kummer took the win followed by Watkins, Genett, Nowak and Andrew Hanson.

Maison Posten crossed the line first in the RCS Hornets, but failed tech inspection for a tire size infraction, which handed the win to Shawn Poston.

The speedway is off from racing next weekend for fans to enjoy Memorial Day weekend and will return for Farm Night on Friday, May 31.
