Jensen and Ekdahl post Princeton feature wins before Friday night rain shower ends show early

By Tami Jo Kuehn

PRINCETON, MN (May 17) - More than 100 drivers signed into the pits Friday for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series race action at Princeton Speedway. Mother Nature delivered a quick shot of rain just before race time, and as the night progressed and features began, the skies reopened; the night was called early after completing just two features.

Joey Jensen and Jeff Ekdahl grabbed the two trophies for the night, before Mother Nature won the rest of the program.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were the first feature of the night, led to green by Ekdahl and Kaden Woodie from row one. An immediate caution slowed the drivers, but Ekdahl claimed the lead when the race resumed. Ekdahl stretched his lead as cars covered the quarter-mile race surface.

Ekdahl’s lead evaporated after a caution slowed the drivers, and Woodie was at his door for the restart. Woodie continued to chase Ekdahl over the remaining laps, but Ekdahl held the lead and took the win. Woodie, Thomas Worth, Levi Randt and Rachel Boston rounded out the top five spots.

A 24-car field of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds filled the track surface for the next race event. Grayson Pratt and Mitch Weiss led the stacked field to the green and they battled for first place. A caution was quickly triggered, and the field was reset with just one lap in the books.

As the race resumed, Joey Jensen wheeled his way to the lead and separated from the pack, while other drivers raced two and three wide for positions. A couple of cautions kept the drivers slowed, and a break was taken while cars were untangled. Through it all, Jensen remained in command, and with more cautions keeping the drivers at a stop-and-go pace, Cole Boston moved into second and made a run at Jensen’s No. 30. However, Jensen held his line and grabbed the checkers with the remaining top five positions going to Boston, Paul Ripley, Jason VandeKamp and Ryan Putnam.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks took the speedway with Joey Jensen back out on the track alongside Dylan Kromschroeder on the first row. As the field took the green, Kromschroeder edged out a slight lead, but Jensen remained close. Drivers were nearly four wide as they battled for positions, but the yellow flag waved as a car spun in turn three. The drivers had just settled into their restart spots when Mother Nature unleashed her fury. Rain poured from the sky and unfortunately the remainder of the race night was postponed.

Makeup features will be scheduled in the upcoming weeks for the Super Stocks, Mod Fours, Hornets and Modifieds as the night was considered a complete show.
