GRAND FORKS, ND (September 6) - Friday night’s portion of the John Seitz Memorial weekend included a full show in the WISSOTA Modifieds - the Big Al Delaine Memorial - as well as a feature for the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Heat races were run leading into Saturday night’s program for the WISSOTA Late Models, Midwest Mods and Street Stocks.

Tyler Peterson and Jordan Henkemeyer split WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victories.

In the headlining Big Al Delaine Memorial, Ryan Gierke and Dale Ames brought the WISSOTA Modified field to the green flag. After two bad starts, Gierke was bumped back to the second row, with Ames and now Blake Jegtvig on the front row. Ames was the early leader, ahead of fifth-starter Zach Johnson, Jegtvig, seventh-starter Dustin Strand and Gierke in the top five. A caution fell with two laps complete, and another caution on the restart for Gierke, who slipped over the track, kept the field at a halt.

Ames led the restart, with Strand working into second and Tyler Peterson blasting into third, pressuring Strand for runner-up honors. Cole Chernosky was fourth and Johnson was fifth.

About a lap later, Peterson drove by Ames for the lead, with Strand and Chernosky side by side for third right behind. Jegtvig was fifth.

With 10 laps scored, Peterson began to work his way through lapped traffic, while Ames continued to hold off Chernosky and Strand for second. Three laps later Chernosky took second, and closed in quickly on Peterson, who was mired in lapped traffic. Ames, Strand and Jegtvig continued to hold top-five spots, while Buzzy Adams was up to sixth from his 18th-starting spot.

With many green flag laps strung together, it became a race within a race as Peterson worked his way high and low through thick lapped traffic, and Chernosky continued to give chase. With 10 to go, Ames, Strand and Jegtvig continued to hold their top-five spots.

With two to go, Peterson made contact with a lapped car in turn four but continued on, as Strand advanced to second during the final lap. Ames, Jegtvig and Adams completed the top five. Chernosky, who held second for much of the race, was driven into a ute tire during the final lap and fell back to seventh at the finish.

Jordan Henkemeyer (Mike Spieker Photo)

In the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, Jordan Henkemeyer was the early leader ahead of Trevor Nelson, Jeremy North, Matt Sparby and Ron Reed in the top five.

With five laps complete, Henkemeyer continued to increase his advantage out front, as Nelson held second. North, Sparby and now Jason Havel held top five spots. Dave Mass broke through into the top five four laps later, getting by Havel for position. A caution with 10 laps complete regrouped the field.

Henkemeyer held the lead for the restart, with Nelson second and Mass and North battling side by side for third. Mass grabbed the spot and set off after Nelson.

Out front, Henkemeyer began to feel a bit of heat from Nelson, while Mass held third. Thirteenth-starter Terran Spacek was up to fourth, and North was fifth.

Henkemeyer began to feel the pressure from Nelson and Mass; Mass drove by Nelson for second. The fight wasn’t over however, as the duo raced back and forth for the runner-up honors right to the checkered flag. This allowed Henkemeyer to pull back out to a safe lead and he drove on to the checkered flag, with Mass topping Nelson for second. Spacek and North completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Late Model Go Hard or Go Home Pole Dash, Chad Becker topped Mike Greseth, Aaron Turnbull, Dustin Strand, Cole Searing, Scott Ward, A.J. Diemel and Lee Grosz for starting spots in the first four rows of Saturday’s 92-lap, $9,200-to-win feature.

Justin Vogel, Cole Greseth, Kasey Ussatis, and Parker Anderson were heat race winners in the Street Stocks, while Aaron Blacklance, Reise Stenberg, Matt Schow, Austin Hunter, and Phil Christlieb were heat race winners in the Midwest Mods.
