Chernosky double dips again at Thunder City Speedway while Simpson and Bolt continue torrid place in their classes

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (July 31) - In repeat performances Wednesday night, familiar faces graced Thunder City Speedway victory lane July 31, as Cole Chernosky grabbed the victories in the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Modifieds, while David Simpson scored a victory in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. And, in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Kyle Bolt was back in victory lane to close out WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action at the Thunder Bay oval.

Chernosky had to take the long way to victory lane in the WISSOTA Modifieds. Starting eighth on the grid, he slipped by race leader John Toppozini with a handful of laps complete. He raced on to a more than 3.5-second advantage ahead of Toppozini, who nipped ninth-starter Scott McKinnon for second at the finish line. Joel Cryderman and Riley Matthews were top-five finishers.

In the Super Stocks, Chernosky’s starting spot was two rows forward in fourth. He had the lead to complete the first lap and drove off from there, leading from flag to flag and taking the victory by nearly two seconds ahead of Curt Myers. Doug Koski was several seconds back in third, Rick Simpson improved four spots to fourth, and Danny Young completed the top five.

Simpson drove by race-long leader Patrick Davis to grab the lead with about six laps left in the WISSOTA Midwest Mod contest and garnered the victory by more than 2.7 seconds ahead of Tanner Ulakovic, who moved to second with just a few laps left. Curtis Stieh, Kevin Monteith, and Davis rounded out the top five finishers.

Fresh off a trip to the United States to compete in Tuesday night’s Little Dream at Rice Lake Speedway, Bolt picked his way forward from eighth on the starting grid into the lead with just a handful of laps complete, and set sail for his eighth win of the season. He was followed to the checkered flag by a hard-charging Andrew Piilo, who had started 12th. Ninth-starter Steven Piilo was third, Nathan Henry was fourth, and Kathryn Stieh was fifth.

In the track’s Hornet feature, Nate Owen picked up the win from his sixth starting spot.
