ABERDEEN, SD (August 24) - Season championship night came to Brown County Speedway Saturday night, with 93 drivers checked in, in five WISSOTA-sanctioned classes.

Winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Todd Stark, Trevor Nelson, Maria Broksieck, Dylan Zabel and Tyler Peterson.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks came out for their feature first. The points battle was only a 16-point difference between Chris Serr and Maria Broksieck. A total of 15 drivers were in the field, with Spence Pollock and Ashley Wampler leading the field to green.

Wampler was the early leader, but caution struck on lap two when points leader Serr broke his left front ball joint, ending his night. On the restart, Matt Goth and Maria Broksieck moved into second and third, respectively.

The pace set by Wampler was a quick one, as she and Goth began to open a gap on the rest of the field. The lead duo were in lapped traffic with nine to go, and the battle became a three-car dance as Broksieck closed in.

With only four laps left, Wampler got loose going into turn one and ended up spinning in front of the field. Goth took the lead for the restart and Broksieck closed in to make a move for the top spot. However, caution struck again for a multi-car incident, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.

On the final restart, Goth and Broksieck separated themselves and battled hard. Going into turn three on the last lap, Goth left the bottom open and Broksieck took full advantage; she took the lead and scored the win. The win also secured Broksieck’s track championship.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next up, with 18 drivers on hand. Their points race was decided coming into the night, with Taylor Schmidt going back to back for the championship honors.

Robert Bitz and Jordan Kienow brought the field to green, but Todd Stark grabbed the lead on lap two. Caution struck on lap four due to a multi-car pileup, but all drivers were able to continue.

On the restart, Kyle Langland moved to second and tried to track down Stark. The lead duo began to pull away and Stark opened up an advantage over Langland. Schmidt closed in and passed Langland for second. Meanwhile, Stark was on cruise control and went on to score his third win of the season at BCS.

The WISSOTA Modifieds had 18 drivers on hand, and the track championship was won by Mike Stearns. Tony Konold and Dylan Zabel brought the field to green, but the race was immediately under red flag as Nathan Grehl rolled going into turn one; he was okay.

On the complete restart, Konold grabbed the early advantage. His lead was short-lived, as Zabel powered right by him on the top side on lap five. Zabel’s pace found him in lapped traffic with 10 to go, where he made quick work of the lapped traffic and extended his lead.

Caution struck with five to go as two drivers went off the top of turn one. Konold and Tyler Peterson were on Zabel’s bumper for the restart and Peterson charged to the lead. Peterson made a diamond move out of turn two, but caught the barrel at the bottom and it sent him spinning. The field was back under yellow.

With three laps left, the field restarted and Kent Arment threw his hat in the ring, battling Zabel for the lead. But Zabel was too good up top and fended off Arment to score the win. The win was an emotional one for Zabel, as the night prior he suffered major damage and thought about loading it up for the weekend. He thanked everyone in the pits who helped him.

WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled out next, with 16 drivers on hand. Stewart Schipke had a safe lead coming into the night and secured his track championship. Shawn Schnabel and Andrew Zastrow brought the field to green, but Mark Abeln moved past the front row and led the opening lap.

Caution struck on lap three when Schnabel spun in turn two. On the restart, Trevor Nelson flew by Abeln to take the lead. Nelson never looked back and led the final 17 laps, dominating the field with lapping up to ninth place. The win is Nelson’s fifth of the year at BCS.

In the final race of the night, the WISSOTA Late Models were 25 strong. Coming into the race, Josh Skorczewski was crowned 2024 track champion. Justin Karlen and Thomas Weisgram brought the field to green for feature action, with Weisgram grabbing the lead. The field was slowed on lap four due to a Karlen spin.

Following the restart, Tyler Peterson maneuvered past both Skorczewski and Mike Stearns to take over second. Weisgram and Peterson both checked out from the field and were in lapped traffic with 18 to go. However, caution struck again for Karlen.

The restart was more of the same as Weisgram and Peterson rocketed out to a lead. The pace found them in lapped traffic with 12 to go and traffic got heavy only a few laps later; Peterson saw his chance and took the lead from Weisgram.

After grabbing the lead, Peterson set it on cruise control and checked out, as Cole Searing reeled in Weisgram to take over second. Peterson held on to grab his first win at BCS this year and 20th overall in the WISSOTA Late Model class.
