GRAND RAPIDS, MN (August 22) - Grand Rapids Speedway held track championship night Thursday. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Kevin Adams, David Simpson, Harry Hanson, Dylan Nelson, Austin Carlson and Tristan McLynn.

Track champions in sanctioned action who were crowned included Jeff Provinzino, McKenna Folstad, Josh Beaulieu, Chaston Finckbone, Dustin Nelson, David Simpson.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods hit the track first, led by Scott Thompson and Sam Kolar from the front row. Thompson was the early leader ahead of Mervin Castle, Kolar and Blake Adams in the top four.

With Thompson and Castle out front, Adams moved to third, with Sam Blevins close behind in fourth. Adams began to close in on Castle for second, Blevins held fourth, and David Simpson made his appearance in the top five. A caution regrouped the field with nine laps to go. Another wreck on the restart brought the field back together for another go.

Adams had the lead after one turn following the restart, and Simpson grabbed second. Thompson slipped back to third and Castle was fourth before he spun around in turn four.

Adams led the restart with seven laps to go, with Simpson second. Matt Cunha was third, and Thompson was fourth.

Simpson began to cut into Adams’ lead, racing right on his bumper. With two laps to go, Simpson got by on the inside of Adams, who had a flat tire and the field was back under yellow.

Simpson led the one-lap shootout to the green flag and drove to the checkered, ahead of Cunha, Thompson, Sam Blevins and Mikey Blevins in the top five.

Kevin Salin and Matt Sparby were out front of the field of 11 WISSOTA Super Stocks to start the feature. Sparby held the initial lead and Salin followed in second. Dalton Carlson raced close in third, ahead of Dylan Nelson and Andy LaBarge in the top five. An early caution regrouped the field.

Following the restart, Sparby jumped back out front, as Salin was second, and Carlson was third under pressure from Dylan Nelson. Nelson took the spot a couple of laps later and set off after Salin.

Nelson caught Salin and began to work the low side for the spot, driving by in turn four and getting the position.

Out front, Sparby struggled with a lapped car in the low line, as Nelson blasted by on the outside and into the lead. Another caution brought the field back together once more.

Dylan Nelson took home the eventual win, while Salin, Sparby, Dustin Nelson, and D.J. Keeler held down the top five.

Ben Heinle and Harry Hanson led the WISSOTA Late Models on the track for their feature. Heinle was the early leader, as Hanson followed in second with pressure from Jeff Massingill. Hanson drove by Heinle out front, as Massingill held third ahead of Johnny Broking and Jeff Provinzino.

With six laps down, Massingill looked to the outside of Heinle and into second, as Broking continued to hold off Provinzino for fourth.

At the halfway point, Broking used the high side to blast past Heinle, and brought Provinzino with him one lap later. Hanson’s lead began to diminish quickly, as Massingill was making in-roads to the spot. As Massingill began struggling with the handling on the No. 6, Broking drove by for second and displaced Massingill to third. Broking had to brake to avoid rear-ending Hanson about a lap later, and Massingill got back by into second.

Hanson took home the feature win, with Massingill, Broking, Provinzino, and Shane Sabraski in the top five.

T.J. Heinle and Charlie Castle led the WISSOTA Modifieds onto the track, with Heinle the early leader. Castle and Kevin Adams battled for second side by side. Bob Broking fought with Ryan Jensen for fourth, before Broking fell back into the pack after making contact with Adams. Castle raced in second, Adams was third and Jensen now held fourth.

Adams went to the high side to challenge Castle for second and after a couple laps, grabbed the spot.

As the leaders began to work through lapped traffic, Adams caught Heinle and challenged him side by side, taking the lead before the caution fell for the stalled car of Josh Beaulieu. Heinle was restored to the lead for the restart.

Adams continued to work the track behind Heinle to get by, taking a couple laps to do so. Once out front, he immediately pulled away.

Adams drove to the eventual victory ahead of Heinle, Beaulieu, Jensen, and Broking in the top five.

The WISSOTA Pure Stocks were led out by Karen Pushinsky and Michael Hawkins. The racers had a rough start, including a Pushinsky rollover.

After the wrecks were cleaned up, Austin Carlson and Justin Barness led the field to green. Carlson pulled out front and drove away from the pack, while Dustin Puffe, Barsness, and Chaston Finckbone raced three wide for second. Jake Smith also became part of the mix.

Barsness was able to settle in second with Puffe close behind, as Finckbone raced in fourth. Puffe then got by Barsness for second, with Finckbone following through to third a bit of time later.

Out front, Carlson took home the win, followed by Puffe, Finckbone, Barsness, and Smith in the top five.

Riley Terry and Zeb Graves led the WISSOTA Hornets onto the track, and after a quick caution on the start, Terry and Graves battled for the lead, while Ryker Larson looked to the high side to get by. Graves took control of the top spot, with Terry close behind. McKenna Folstad raced in third with Tristen McLynn in fourth; Trenton Beel moved into fifth.

McLynn drove to the high side and stole the lead, as Graves raced in second and Beel drove to third. McLynn took home the checkered flag, chased to the finish line by Beel, Graves, Terry, and Folstad rounded off the top five for the race.

In the Northern Renegades, Chris Lewis took the victory and was crowned the track champion.
