As Miller Central Speedway closes out the season, Stearns, Nelson, Simpson and Broksieck score Saturday night feature wins

MILLER, SD (August 16) - The 2024 racing season came to a close at Miller Central Speedway on Friday night, with the Tri-State Late Models joining the WISSOTA Dirt Track Series for the evening.
Mike Stearns, Trevor Nelson, David Simpson and Maria Broksieck each grabbed a win in WISSOTA-sanctioned action, while Chad Becker topped the headlining event.
Tony Konold and Dylan Zabel battled for the lead over the opening pair of laps in the WISSOTA Modified main event; Konold secured the lead on lap three and slipped ahead, while Stearns and Dale Ames moved in to challenge for second.
After the only caution with six laps scored in the 15-lap race, Stearns wrestled second from Zabel, then made a power move around the outside of Konold through turns three and four to lead lap nine at the stripe. Stearns powered away for the victory with Konold second, Zabel third, Ames fourth and Cayden Schmeling fifth.

Austin Arbogast snatched the lead when the 12-lap WISSOTA Super Stock main event took the green flag. Nelson was second by the end of lap one, then slipped under Arbogast in turns one and two on the second lap to steal the lead. Nelson raced away to the victory, while Arbogast turned back a mid-race challenge from Derek Zastrow to maintain the runner-up position. Zastrow was third ahead of Brad Kopecky and Dale Tomes.
David Simpson (Allen Becker Photo)
Dawson Zabel steadily pulled away from second-place Lorin Johnson over the first half of the 12-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Jake Wranek and David Simpson were next in line, and the battle for second tightened before the first caution with six laps scored.
Wranek claimed second from Johnson after the restart, and Simpson grabbed third one lap later. The final caution fell with four laps left, and on the restart, Simpson made an outside move on Wranek in turn one to steal second, then cut low out of turn two to grab the lead from Zabel. Simpson, the Canadian traveler, slipped away for the win ahead of Zabel, Wranek, Johnson, and 11th-starter Nick Perry.

James Hoing and Kyle Bertram led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to green in their 12-lap feature. Bertram slipped high in turn three and drifted back on the opening lap, and Hoing spun in turn three on lap two while leading to bring out the yellow.
Andy Rossow led the pack to green, but Broc Stout had the better restart and claimed the lead down the frontstretch. Maria Broksieck, who started eighth, was in contention and challenged Rossow before the next caution with three laps scored; Rossow dropped from competition under the yellow flag.
Stout led the pack to green, but a miscue in turn one allowed Bertram and Broksieck to shoot by. Bertram used the low groove and maintained the lead, but Broksieck was there; she led down the back chute with each lap before Bertram regained the lead out of turn four. Finally, Broksieck secured the lead on lap eight, and paced the rest of the distance for the victory. Bertram was second with Stout third, Clifford Houser fourth and Grady Myers fifth.
Becker led Cole Searing and Blair Nothdurft in a tight battle for the lead for the first 19 laps of the Late Model main event. While navigating traffic, contact at the front of the pack sent Searing over the top of turn one. Becker held off the challenges of Nothdurft over the final six-lap run to score the $2,000 victory.
Cody Songer topped Pure Stock action.
