Wagamon whips up a winning Mod recipe Friday at Princeton, followed by Schulte in the MidMods and Holtquist in the Mod Fours

By Tami Jo Kuehn

PRINCETON, MN (August 16) - With multiple tracks canceling due to weather, Princeton Speedway completed a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, with winners including Clayton Wagamon, Ashton Schulte and Dustin Holtquist.

The program also featured the High Roller Winged and Non-Winged Sprint cars, as well as the MN Micro Sprints. Winners in those classes included Carter Jensrud, Ken Hron and Mike Mueller.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were the first feature of the night, led to green by Bud Martini and Ashton Schulte. The top two battled nose to nose for a couple laps until Schulte broke away with the lead. Martini held second as T.J. Wyman felt pressure from Joey Jensen and Jason VandeKamp for third. Contact then occurred among the drivers fighting for third, and the caution fell.

The field was reset with Schulte alone in front, while VandeKamp challenged Martini. Out front, Schulte led the remaining laps without issue and took the win. Martini, VandeKamp, Ryan Putnam and Jensen followed in the top five.

Amanda Carroll, Ashton Schwinn and Trevor Siltman were three wide when the WISSOTA Mod Fours went green, and Schwinn pulled away with the lead. Robert Holtquist then made his way into the top spot, with Blake Hawker and Dustin Holtquist in tow. Dustin took over second, and then flew by Robert for the lead, as Hawker then challenged Robert Holtquist for second. The yellow waved as Robert Holtquist and Blake Hawker exited the speedway with issues.

Dustin Holtquist brought the drivers back to green, and remained out front to the checkered flag. Josh Litzau, Gerald Nohner, Connor Bruss and Schwinn completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds closed out the night’s program and Devin Fouquette took the lead with Clayton Wagamon in second. Tyler Kaeter and Eric Lamm battled for third to the rear of Wagamon until Wagamon moved forward. Wagamon slid to the high side and challenged Fouquette for the lead, then dropped low on the surface and took the point. Wagamon wasted no time and stretched his lead as Kaeter and Lamm remained in a battle for third. Lamm broke away from Kaeter, and then took second as Wagamon caught slower drivers. A couple drivers suffered difficulties on the final lap, but Wagamon wasn’t one of them, as he rolled his #14w into victory lane. Lamm, Fouquette, Kaeter and Travis Schulte wrapped up the top five drivers.

The Traditional High Roller Sprints were led early on by Ken Hron, with Jake Kouba and Scott Brandt behind. Hron led every lap to take the checkered flag, ahead of Kouba, Jack Berger, Scott Brandt and Mike Mueller in the top five.

The Winged Sprints took the green, with Kevin Bradwell snagging the lead, Mike Mueller in second, and Chase Viebrock in third. As the lead trio navigated lapped traffic, Mueller began to pressure Bradwell for the top spot. They were wing to wing for the lead as Viebrock kept close behind in third. Mueller moved forward with the lead while Viebrock made his way past Bradwell. Mueller drove to the victory, ahead of Viebrock, Bradwell, Owen Carlson and John Vaillancourt in the top five.

Brenden Newville and Noah Berglund led the MN Micro Sprints to the green and the top spot was up for grabs for the first lap. Caleb Moen drove to the point, with Carter Jensrud close in second and Joe Snow back in third. The top two drivers separated from the field and kept close as they rubbed tires for the position. Jensrud claimed the lead and began to make his way through lapped traffic with a few laps to go. Jensrud grabbed the win followed by Moen, Snow, Tyler Pelofske and Mason Seubert in the top five.

Princeton Speedway will be off next Friday, as Ogilvie Raceway hosts its popular truck and tractor pull. The speedway will close out the 2024 race season on Friday, August 30. All regular WISSOTA classes will be in action, along with the Micro Sprints, to close out the season.
