Red Cedar Speedway hosts Roger Rieck Memorial for Midwest Mods and Koehler claims top cash; Diemel, Hartung, Myers and Kummer also get wins

MENOMONIE, WI (August 9) - It was the Roger Rieck Memorial race this past Friday at Red Cedar Speedway. The race honored a longtime fan at the track, who unfortunately lost his life in 2020.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Nick Koehler in the headlining Midwest Modified special, as well as A.J. Diemel, Jake Hartung, Cody Kummer, and Curt Myers.

Koehler and Shadow Kitchner led the field to green in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division. Koehler jumped out to the early lead, with Kitchner pressuring early. Brady Larson moved to third and looked to reel in the top two.

Koehler continued to maintain his lead throughout the 20-lap main event, but a caution with five laps to go bunched up the field and set up a shootout. On the restart, Larson jumped to the inside and was side by side with Koehler. He attempted to slide in front, but Koehler stayed in the throttle and did not let it happen, as he rolled off to the win followed by Larson, Kitchner, Cole Chernosky and Jesse Bryan.

Diemel blasted out to the lead in the WISSOTA Late Model feature and used the top side of the speedway to set a torrid, untouchable pace. Mike Prochnow pursued Diemel, but never had anything for him. Chad Mahder moved to third, followed by Jim Carlson in fourth and Buddy Hanested in fifth.

Hartung used his front-row starting spot to charge into the lead of the WISSOTA Modified feature, leaving Cole Chernosky and Jake Smith to battle for second. Meanwhile, Shane Halopka started marching toward the front and moved into the top five. Halopka cruised past Smith and Chernosky, and started his charge for the lead. Halopka got to the back of Hartung and made several attempts to get by, as lapped traffic became a factor. Hartung held strong and picked up the win, followed by Halopka, Chernosky, Smith and Aiden Hoffman.

Myers was unchallenged in the WISSOTA Super Stock division. Myers took control early and was untouchable. Jesse Redetzke made a charge into second, but his forward march stalled after that. Brandon Clemens was third followed by Alex Myers and Tommy Richards in the top five.

Connor Franson took the early lead in the WISSOTA Street Stock division as Kolby Kiehl moved into second and immediately looked for the lead. Kiehl drove into the top spot before he was pressured by Cody Kummer and Hunter VanGilder. Kummer’s car was extremely strong on the bottom side of the speedway, and he moved past Kiehl for the lead. VanGilder battled with Kiehl for a short time and secured second place, but as the race wore down, he had nothing for Kummer. Kummer drove off to the win followed by VanGilder, Kiehl, Gunnar Watkins and Zach Beaulieu.

Matt Drier picked up his first career feature win in the RCS Hornets.
