Kostreba, Boston, Gullikson, Bawden and Hagemann top WISSOTA features as Ogilvie Raceway turns 70 kids into bikers

OGILVIE, MN (August 10) - Approximately 70 bikes lined the frontstretch on Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, as kids were the focus of the program for the night and felt the excitement of a chance to win a new bike.

In the action on the track, the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers were on hand in addition to the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Mod Fours, Street Stocks and Hornets.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Jim Gullikson, Ryan Kostreba, Tommy Bawden, Jenna Hagemann and Cole Boston.

Rachel Boston and Jim Gullikson led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to green for the first feature event of the night, and Gullikson grabbed the early lead. Tommy Pogones moved into second, while Boston held third with Jeff Ekdahl and Kyle Howland right behind.

An early caution reset the field, but Gullikson remained in command as the race resumed. Ekdahl moved into third and chased after Pogones as laps went by, and with the white raised, the yellow waved instead. The late restart didn’t phase Gullikson, however, as he took the win followed by Ekdahl, Pogones, Boston and Howland in the top five.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to green by Russell Kostreba and Austin Niemeyer, but the yellow fell during the first lap. Once the race resumed, Niemeyer was in command with Ryan Kostreba in second and Dustin Nelson in third. Ryan Kostreba began to pressure Niemeyer, and after a couple laps, Kostreba nosed out the point. Niemeyer kept Kostreba within an arm’s reach for a bit, but Kostreba was able to stretch his lead to nearly a straightaway by the drop of the checkered flag. Niemeyer, Nelson, Dexton Koch and Dylan Kromschroeder were top-five finishers behind Kostreba.

Anthony Jenson and Jenna Hagemann led the WISSOTA Hornets to green and Hagemann was the early leader. Jenson kept close in second as other drivers battled for top-five positions. Payson Patrin moved to third and the top three separated from the other drivers with Hagemann still in command. Jenson slid alongside Hagemann’s door for the lead as Patrin sat back and watched the battle. Hagemann didn’t budge from her line, however, as she took the win with Jenson, Nikota Larson, Bobie Arnes and Randy Jacoboski as official top-five finishers following post-race tech.

Tommy Bawden (Michael Wadsen Photo)

Tommy Bawden and Robert Holtquist led the WISSOTA Mod Fours field to green. The lead duo battled for the top spot until Bawden secured the point and Holtquist held onto second.

With five laps to go, a caution was triggered. The field was reset and Bawden felt the heat of Bob and Dustin Holtquist to his rear; Bawden was unfazed however, as he took the checkered flag with Dustin Holtquist, Tyler Larson, Blake Hawker and Maeghan Milz as the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds closed out the night’s program with a four-wide salute to the fans and when the green dropped, Cole Anderson, Ben Lewis and Ryan Putnam were three-wide. Putnam claimed the lead, but Lewis didn’t back down as he raced alongside Putnam’s door.

Following a caution, Putnam brought the racers back to green with Lewis, Wyatt Boyum and David Simpson in tow. Lewis sped to Putnam’s side and soon took the point, as Cole Boston continued to make his way forward.

A couple cautions slowed the drivers, and Boston made best use of the restarts to grab first. Putnam retained second while David Swearingen challenged Lewis for third.

A final caution was triggered for debris and following the restart, Boston took the win followed by Putnam, Swearingen, Ashley Boyum and Lewis in top points.

Mike Hudyma and Brian Vang took wins in the Vintage features.

Next Saturday, the High Roller Sprint Cars, including Winged and Non-Winged cars, will stop by Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for their 2024 stop. WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Mod Fours and Hornets will also be in action. Racing will resume at 6:30 p.m.
