On Meet The Drivers night at Hibbing Raceway, Massingill, Wood, LaBarge, Feltus and Skaja score feature wins
HIBBING, MN (July 6) - Jeff Massingill, Jeffrey Wood, Tristan LaBarge, Justin Feltus, and Louis Skaja topped the A-mains Saturday night at Hibbing Raceway, as the track hosted its popular Meet the Drivers night for race fans.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, Feltus and Chris Magistad brought the field to the green flag, with Magistad the early leader. The field endured several caution periods, during which Feltus used one restart to his advantage and drove to the lead. Two more caution periods kept the field at a stop-and-go pace, before the field was able to rattle off several green flag laps in a row. Feltus hung and took the win ahead of hard-charging Mervin Castle III, who had started eighth. Magistad, Dylan Miller, and Eric Anderson were in the top five. It was the first-ever win for Feltus at Hibbing Raceway.
Kevin Salin and Mikey Vajdl held down the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Salin the early leader. Salin and Robert Lore had a great side-by-side battle for the lead, while farther back, Tristan LaBarge moved his way quickly to the front from his eighth starting spot; he hung out in third, looked for a way by the top two, and took the lead on lap 10 following a couple cautions for spun racers.
LaBarge drove on to the win from there, as Andy LaBarge completed his charge from seventh in second, Dalton Carlson was third, Doug Koski was fourth, and Vajdl completed the top five.
Harry Hanson and Derek Vesel led the field to the green in the WISSOTA Late Models, but second-row starter Jeff Massingill moved to the inside of contact between the front-row starters, and took off into the lead. Broking was second, and Provinzino quickly made his way from seventh to third.
Out front, Massingill’s lead remained unchanged, with the top three having a couple car lengths between each other, and then another gap to the rest of the top-10 runners. Things tightened up in lapped traffic around the halfway point, but Massingill made his way through and built his lead back up once again. Broking began to close once more in the waning laps, but Massingill took the victory. Provinzino, 10th-starter Kyle Peterlin and Hanson were top-five finishers.
In the WISSOTA Modifieds, a short field of six racers were led to green by Steve Stavenger and Tyler Kintner. On the start, Kintner drifted high in turn two, with Andrew Inman and Jeff Wood getting by into first and second. Inman and Jeff Wood began a brief side-by-side battle for the lead, with Inman pulling away with the advantage. Jeff Wood began to feel the heat from Mack Estey for second, with Jeffrey Wood and Kintner doing the same for fourth. Estey took second and set out after Inman, while Jeffrey Wood got by dad Jeff for third, and then drove by Estey for second a couple of laps later.
Wood quickly closed in on Inman, making the pass for the lead with about three laps to go. Jeffrey Wood drove to victory lane ahead of Inman, Estey, Kintner, and Jeff Wood in the top five.
In the WISSOTA Hornets, Mikayla LaBarge was the early leader, with Anastashia Chavez getting by following an early restart and taking over out front. Louis Skaja, who started sixth, drove by into the lead shortly after, and sped off to a healthy advantage. At the checkered flag, he took the win, holding off eighth-starter Joseph Puidokas, 21st-starter Trenton Beel, Jada Lore, and Calvin Skaja.
