Proctor people pull off another Sunday showdown and the winner list includes Sabraski, Adams, Ripley, Mindock and Jarecki
PROCTOR, MN (July 7) - Proctor Speedway closed out the long holiday week of action Sunday with a full program of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series competition and a visit from the USRA Late Models. Super Stocks had the night off.
Winners in WISSOTA-sanctioned action included Shane Sabraski, Kevin Adams, Paul Ripley, DeJay Jarecki, and Brent Mindock.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Joshua Kough and Don Smith brought the field to green. Smith was the early leader, followed by a side-by-side battle between Ripley and Kough, with Ripley driving by Kough and then taking the lead a lap later. Blake Adams also displaced Kough for third. A caution a couple of laps later for an Adams spin regrouped the field.
With nine laps to go, the field was led back to green by Ripley. It was three and almost four-wide for the top five spots before another caution brought the field to a halt, this time for the stalled race car of Taylor Madrinich in turn four.
Ripley took off once again following the restart, as Tyler Vernon, David Simpson, Kough and Smith were battling two and three wide for the remaining top five spots. Smith shook out into second, Simpson was third, Vernon was fourth, and Kough was displaced to fifth. Vernon and Simpson battled with Smith once again for runner-up honors before a caution for two racers spun off the track regrouped the field.
Ripley led the green, white, checkered restart and hung on to take the checkered flag. Vernon slid into second, with Smith third, Simpson close behind in fourth, and Deven VanHouse fifth.
In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Kevin Adams and Jack Rivord brought the field to the green flag. Adams was the early leader, with Copp and Rivord side by side for second. Sabraski moved quickly into fourth, with Nick Oreskovich fifth.
With six laps complete, Adams continued to lead, with Copp and Sabraski side by side on his tail. The top three began to string out along the high side, with Copp and Sabraski again closing back in on Adams at the halfway point.
With Adams continuing to hang on in front, Copp and Sabraski were right on his bumper past the halfway point, with Sabraski beginning to test a line lower. Copp took his chance and used a slide job in turn four with less than a handful of laps left, but Adams countered and took off into the lead along the high side. One last attempt for Copp came up empty, as Adams drove off to the victory. Copp settled for second, Sabraski was third, Rivord was fourth and Oreskovich was fifth.
Mike Klippenstein was the early leader of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, before Danny Vang shot past out of turn two on lap three. Sabraski was close behind in second, with Darrell Nelson moving past Klippenstein to third.
With Vang along the high line, Sabraski began to test a lower lane in the turns, drawing closer to Vang’s deck lid, while Jeff Massingill did the same to get past Nelson into third.
With 10 to go, Sabraski had pulled even with Vang down the frontstretch, as Vang tried to navigate lapped traffic. Sabraski pulled down low two turns later and slid up in front of Vang to take the lead. From there, Sabraski had a healthy lead and drove off to the win ahead of Vang, Massingill, Nelson, and Klippenstein.
In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Brent Mindock was the early leader, ahead of a side-by-side battle for second between Chaston Finckbone and Aaron Bernick. Finckbone slipped by into second, and set chase after Mindock. Mindock was able to narrowly hold off a last-lap charge from Finckbone for the win. Bernick was third, Devin Fries was fourth and Jake Smith was fifth.
It was a dicey start for the No. 0 of DeJay Jarecki, who was caught up in a first lap spin to start the WISSOTA Hornet feature, but it finished in victory lane. Jarecki drove by Derek Dunbar into the top spot with a couple laps complete to garner the win. He was followed to the checkered flag by Carson Gotelaere, A.J. House, Dunbar and Nikota Larson in the top five.
In what was a side-by-side battle for much of the first half of the race, Cade Nelson took the lead from polesitter Jason McFadden and pulled away in the waning stages to grab the victory in the USRA Late Models.
