Brauer, Schow and Strand smack fendered foes at River Cities Speedway and Wahl wins open-wheeled feature

GRAND FORKS, ND (July 2) - River Cities Speedway staff, drivers and fans remembered Street Stock and Late Model driver Nick Minske during pre-race ceremonies on Tuesday night. Minske, who competed at River Cities weekly for over a decade, passed away June 21 after succumbing to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Following the national anthems, Mark Dobmeier took Minske’s Late Model around the track with a few hundred drivers and crew members surrounding the turn one and two embankment.

In action on the track, Dustin Strand, Braden Brauer, Dustin Wahl and Matt Schow topped WISSOTA Dirt Track Series A-mains during the special holiday week show at River Cities Speedway.

Strand, who started seventh on the grid in the WISSOTA Late Models, picked his way forward to garner the win.

He took the lead on lap eight and proved he was the class of the field. Strand held a 4.3-second lead until a yellow flew with four to go. The restart posed no threat for the four-time NLRA Late Model champion as he cruised to the checkers.

He was followed to the checkered flag by Brad Seng, Shane Edginton, Amelia Eisenschenk, and Brody Troftgruben.

Last year's WISSOTA Street Stock national runner-up, Braden Brauer, dominated the 21-lap WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Greg Jose led early, but his night ended early after he was spun in turn four, collecting Seth Klostreich. Klostreich was able to continue.

Brauer inherited the lead for the restart and never looked back, picking up the win by over five seconds over Sunday night's winner Trey Hess. The win was the fourth for the driver who traveled six-and-a-half hours to River Cities Speedway from Eyota, Minnesota.

Matt Schow was victorious in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods from his third starting spot. He took the win ahead of Austin Hunter, Jamie Dietzler, 14th-starter Tim Kanten, and Brennan Schmidt.

Dustin Wahl raced to a big lead in the WISSOTA Modified feature and held off a hard charging Dustin Strand by 1.7 seconds at the checkers. Sixth-starting Strand moved into second with 12 to go and had a 2.8-second deficit to Wahl, but ate into his lead lap after lap. Wahl was too fast, however, and went on to pick up his first win at River Cities since he swept Hornet action in September of 2004. Eighth-starter Ward Imrie was third, Aaron Blacklance was fourth and Bryce Borgen was fifth.

Mark Dobmeier and Nick Omdahl were winners in the Sprints.
