Ogilvie outsmarts Mother Nature and, along with the fans, the night’s winners are Wagamon, Niemeyer, Boyum, Ekdahl, Larson and Jenson

OGILVIE, MN (July 20) - Saturday night was Blaze Credit Union night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, and once again, Mother Nature was knocking on the door as the race night progressed. With 86 cars in attendance, the track staff pushed the show through before the rain began to fall.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners Saturday included Clayton Wagamon, Austin Niemeyer, Ashley Boyum, Tyler Larson, Jeff Ekdahl and Tony Jenson.

Keith Tourville and Jim Gullikson led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to green for the night’s first feature race. Tourville grabbed the early lead with Gullikson and Kyle Howland as the top three. Gullikson tracked down Tourville for the lead while Jeff Ekdahl raced alongside Howland; Ekdahl took third and looked ahead to Gullikson and Tourville. The top three drivers remained close as Ekdahl moved along the high groove and pressured Tourville. Ekdahl made the pass for the top spot and slowly stretched his lead over the remaining laps. Ekdahl drove to the win ahead of Tourville, Gullikson, Charlie Sheik and Tommy Pogones in the top five.

Ashley Boyum (Mark Anderson Photo)

Kaden Woodie was the early leader of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature, as Ashley Boyum, Jamie Davis and William Moelter ran three wide for second. The three drivers moved forward to challenge Woodie, and they were four-wide going into turn one; Boyum emerged as the leader, as Moelter moved back in to challenge her. Moelter pulled away in first, as farther back David Swearingen made his way through the field. Swearingen charged alongside Boyum and they closed in on Moelter. Slower traffic was in sight as Boyum caught Moelter. They were three-wide multiple times in traffic as Swearingen made his appearance once again.

Moelter, Boyum and Swearingen raced hard for the lead, swapping positions through lapped traffic. As Moelter and Swearingen rounded the turn, contact occurred, and their cars were hooked. Boyum shot into the lead as Moelter and Swearingen broke free of one another and the yellow fell.

With just two laps to go, Ashley Boyum brought the boys back to green, and she held the point to take the win. Moelter, Swearingen, Joey Jensen and Cole Boston completed the top five.

Tyler Larson (Mark Anderson Photo)

Jordan Fischer grabbed the immediate lead as the WISSOTA Mod Four feature began, while Tyler Larson and Maeghan Milz battled for second. Milz and Larson moved alongside Fischer and the drivers were three wide in the track’s curve. Milz emerged with the lead and Larson held second. Larson kept after Milz and soon made his move into the top spot.

Laps quickly passed by and the checkers waved with Larson getting the win followed by Milz, Blake Hawker, Rowan Tramm and Josh Madson in the top five.

Austin Niemeyer (Mark Anderson Photo)

Jason Hobbs, Jeremy Nelson and Austin Niemeyer raced three-wide through turn four of the opening lap in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, and Niemeyer nosed out the lead. Jeremy Nelson held second with Dustin Nelson in third, as Dexton Koch, who started seventh, made his way into the top five. Koch snagged third, then second, and with only two laps to go, Koch chased after Niemeyer. Although Koch got close, Neimeyer held his line and took the checkers. Koch settled for second with Jeremy Nelson, Dustin Nelson and Cole Chernosky rounding out the top five.

Clayton Wagamon (Mark Anderson Photo)

The WISSOTA Modifieds took the green with Clayton Wagamon speeding away with the lead. Cole Chernosky claimed second with Jeremy Nelson and Zach Benson behind. Chernosky ran solidly in second, while Nelson and Benson were nose to nose for third.

By this point, the race was half over and Wagamon stretched his lead to a 4-second advantage. However, a caution then occurred which reset the field and erased Wagamon’s impressive lead.

When the green waved, Wagamon sped off, as Nelson grabbed second with Benson, Dave Cain and Chernosky in second through fifth. The racers remained in those positions the remaining laps, and when the checkers waved, Wagamon took the win ahead of Nelson, Benson, Cain, and Chernosky in the top five.

Anthony Jenson (Mark Anderson Photo)

The WISSOTA Hornets wrapped up the night of WISSOTA racing with Jacob Bayerl and Tony Jenson on row one. Bayerl took the early lead with Jenson, Payson Patrin and Randy Jacoboski three wide for second. Jenson claimed the position, and then took the lead when a driver came to a stop in turn three and the yellow waved.

The Hornets were back in action after some fuel was burned from the track surface, and Jenson remained in command. Jenson led the remaining laps and took the win with Jenna Hagemann, Patrin, Jacoboski and Bayerl in the top five.

Next Saturday, the FastLane Motorsports Super Stock Series will stop by the raceway for their make-up race night from June’s rainout. Late Models will also be part of the program, while Street Stocks will have the night off. Racing will resume at 6:30 p.m.
