KRA racers dodge drops of rain on Thursday; winner list includes Eischens, Vejtruba, Koch, Brauer, Larson and Rohner
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (May 30) - KRA Speedway finally dodged the rain and opened its gates to the 2024 season. Even Thursday, the rains were on the doorstep - within 10 miles of the track and from three different directions - but only a few sprinkles fell at the speedway.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Jason Vejtruba, Dexton Koch, Kolton Brauer, Jeff Rohner, Don Eischens, Tyler Larson.
A nice field of 17 WISSOTA Streeter Stocks made the trip over to KRA Thursday, led to green by Joe Martin and Kolton Brauer. Brauer jumped out to the early lead in the 20-lapper, but by lap seven Ty Agen had caught him and the two went back and forth for several laps. Agen took the lead at one point, but Brauer was relentless as he took charge, got the advantage and hung on for the win. Agen had to settle for second, with Martin continuing to impress everybody in third. Justin Vogel worked through some strong traffic and finished fourth, while Austin Hamre was fifth.
The WISSOTA Mod Fours were led from the pole by Tyler Larson, and he never looked back, as he took the victory 14 laps later. It was a great battle for second, as Dustin Holtquist, Dean Larson and Tommy Bawden went at it for several laps before Holtquist made a last lap pass on Bawden for the runner-up spot. Dean Larson was fourth, while Blake Hawker completed the top five.
Dexton Koch has been tearing up the WISSOTA Super Stock fields this spring already, and he did the same at KRA Thursday. He grabbed his eighth win of the season, while behind him there were great battles for second on back. Brayden Hedtke and Zach Schultz fought hard for runner-up honors, while the car on the move was Eric Martini. In the end, Brayden finished second, with Martini third, Andrew Hedtke fourth, and Zach Schultz in fifth.
The 10-car field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods was led early on by Tim Kanten, but defending track champ Jason Vejtruba came charging along, and with four laps to go made the pass for the lead and the eventual win. Kanten was second, Ben Beekman was third, and Bud Martini fourth. Johnny Lindgren completed the top five.
Though there was a short field of WISSOTA Modifieds on hand, they were already in mid-season form. Don Eischens grabbed the win from his pole starting spot, taking the victory ahead of Seth Brede and Jake Knapper as the top three finishers.
The WISSOTA Hornets had a strong three-car battle up front, as Jeff Rohner continued his strong start to 2024, picking up his fourth win this season. Matt Dittman and Justin Schelitzche were close behind in second and third, while Paul Kester and Alysha Christenson completed the top five.
Coltyn Schuler won in the track’s Pure Stock class Thursday, to complete season-opening action.
