At Brown County, Brauer leads the only feature to the finish before rain sets in on Friday

By Spencer Heupel

ABERDEEN, SD (June 7) - The 2024 racing season continued on Friday, June 7 for Brown County Speedway. It looked to be a good night with the Tri-State Late Models invading the speedway. A good count of 95 total cars checked in, but the night was cut short by Mother Nature.

Only one feature was completed, and it was a fun one with the WISSOTA Street Stocks. It was another good count for the class with 20 cars set to battle, with Michael Bogh and Maria Broksieck on the front row.

As the field came to the green, an incident in the back of the pack caused the yellow to immediately fly. After the field was reset and took the green, it was on between Broksieck and the Boghs, Michael and Jayden, as the top three set a blistering pace ripping the cushion and opening up a gap to the field.

The track was very wide and racey with side-by-side and even three-wide racing. Jayden ended up getting around his father, Michael, to take the second spot and was on Broksieck’s bumper. The lead trio caught slower traffic with nine to go, and it got intense finding a way through as fast as possible.

While the top three struggled with some traffic, that allowed eighth-place starting Braden Brauer to close in on the lead group. Brauer closed in a hurry and began looking for a way around the leaders. With only two to go, Brauer saw an opportunity and took it; he went to the middle and passed both Michael and Jayden Bogh to move into second and was hot on Broksieck’s tail.

The lead duo now was neck and neck as they came to the white flag, where it was hairy with heavy lapped traffic. Broksieck led through one and two, and as they went down the backstretch, she went to the middle to clear the lapped car of Mike Mund. As they came out of four, Brauer found another gear, floored it to the outside of Broksieck and the lapped car, and beat Broksieck to the line by .027 seconds.

Brauer, who had never been at Brown County Speedway, won his sixth feature of the season. Broksieck, Michael Bogh, Chris Gonska and Jayden Bogh rounded out the top five.

The Tri-State Late Models were up next, but as the field rolled out on the track, Mother Nature rolled in. The track crew gave it a shot to continue the show, but the rain was just a bit too much. The rest of the night was canceled with makeup features for WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Super Stocks to be determined.
