Saturday is Hibbing hammer time for Burdick, Kintner, Adams, Carlson and Lefler

HIBBING, MN (May 25) - It was Hibbing Raceway’s Remembrance and Recognition night Saturday, May 25, as the track hosted its second week of the 2024 season.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Kevin Burdick, Tyler Kintner, Blake Adams, Dalton Carlson, and Michael Lefler.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Mikey Blevins was the early leader, ahead of Scott Thompson, Deven VanHouse, and Dylan Miller in the top four. Several laps later the field was four wide for top-five spots, as Blevins had a tire go down and the caution fell; Scott Thompson was scored as the leader.

Thompson led the field back to green, just ahead of Blake Adams and Dylan Miller in row two. Adams wasted no time in charging past Thompson for the top spot before the lap was complete, as Thompson held second, and VanHouse was third.

Adams continued to lead through a few more cautions, taking the win ahead of VanHouse, Miller, Thompson, and Justin Bassa in the top five.

In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Kevin Salin and Robert Lore brought the field to the green flag, though Austin Carlson moved his way into the lead quickly ahead of Lore before the yellow brought the field to a halt.

As laps passed by, Carlson increased his lead ahead of a battle for second between Tristan LaBarge and Mikey Vajdl. Soon Andy LaBarge joined the fray and displaced Vajdl to fourth. Austin Blom raced in fifth.

Carlson checked out to the victory, while Andy LaBarge won the laps-long dogfight for second ahead of Tristan LaBarge. Blom was fourth and Vajdl was fifth.

Deven VanHouse and Mark Heinle led the field of WISSOTA Late Models to the green flag, with Jeff Provinzino and Harry Hanson behind in row two. VanHouse took control in the lead, as Heinle kept close and the two battled back and forth for the top spot. Provinzino was third, while Burdick appeared in the top five in fourth. Hanson was fifth.

VanHouse began to feel the heat from Heinle and Provinzino, who took second from Heinle. Burdick made his way to third and began to pressure Provinzino for second, getting by Provinzino and VanHouse along the ultra high line in one lap with just 12 laps scored.

It was near disaster for Burdick a half lap later, when he came upon a slower lapped car with nowhere to go. The yellow flew for the spun racer and Burdick was restored to the lead for the restart.

Burdick jumped back out to a healthy lead, while Provinzino tried to track him down from second as the laps wound down. VanHouse and Hanson battled for third, while Johnny Broking was fifth.

Even lapped traffic and a caution on the white flag lap were not issues for Burdick, who collected his second win of the season. Provinzino was second, Hanson was third, Broking was fourth and Derek Vesel was fifth.

Jeff Wood and Mack Estey brought the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green flag, with a two-car, side-by-side battle for the lead between Wood and Estey highlighting the first couple of laps. Estey continued to hold the slight advantage, and then drove off from Wood, as Jeffrey Wood got by his dad into second. Bob Broking was fourth, and Johnny Broking was fifth.

After several laps, Jeffrey Wood began to make a big indent on Estey’s lead, and the front duo readied to move through lapped traffic. A caution for a spun car brought the field back together, and the call went against Jeffrey Wood.

Following two restarts for successive cautions, Estey drove back out to a healthy advantage ahead of the battle for second between Bob Broking and Jeff Wood. Another caution halted the race’s progress.

Estey continued to lead when the race resumed, with pressure from Bob Broking. Jeff Wood was third, Tyler Kintner — who started 14th — was up into fourth, and Donnie Lofdahl and Kevin Adams argued over fifth.

With six laps to go, Estey led the field to the green, but seemed to suffer mechanical issues on the start. Bob Broking gained the lead, Kintner was second, and Andrew Inman and Jeff Wood tussled for third; Inman took the spot.

With three laps remaining, Kintner applied heavy pressure, getting by Broking and then leaving the crowd in the dust, taking the victory. Broking narrowly held onto second at the line, Inman was third, Jeff Wood was fourth, and Kevin Adams was fifth.

In the WISSOTA Hornets, Michael Lefler started third and had the lead before the lap was complete. From there he held the two-by-two field behind him as they fought for top-five spots. Lefler drove off to a healthy victory ahead of McKenna Folstad, Zeb Graves, Nikota Larson and Calvin Skaja.
