Proctor pulls in its fans for first show 0f ‘24 to see Massingill, Bellefeuille, Myers, Smith and Gotelaere score feature wins

PROCTOR, MN (May 19) - Proctor Speedway was able to open for its first night of racing in 2024 on Sunday, May 19. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Jeff Massingill, Jody Bellefeuille, Curt Myers, Jake Smith, and Carson Gotelaere.

Myers led from start to finish from his front-row starting spot in the WISSOTA Super Stocks. At the checkered flag, he had nearly a straightaway over a two-by-two battle for second through fifth. Austin Blom took runner-up honors, Rick Simpson was third, Darin Meierotto was fourth, and Shawn McFadden was fifth.

Nick Oreskovich was the early leader of the WISSOTA Modified feature, followed closely by Brandon Copp and Jody Bellefeuille. The following lap Bellefeuille got by Copp to second. A caution for T.J. Heinle brought the field back together.

Oreskovich led the field back to green with one lap complete, but slid high and Bellefeuille got by into the lead. Swan battled back and forth for second with Oreskovich, while Andrew Inman and Copp engaged in a fight for fourth.

Bellefeuille began to pull away to a substantial lead, as Oreskovich held second, Swan was third, Copp was fourth and Inman was fifth before a caution for Scott McKinnon.

With 12 laps remaining, Bellefeuille jumped back out to his commanding lead, as Copp slipped by into second. About a lap later Inman drove by Oreskovich into third. John Toppozini began to challenge Oreskovich for fourth, taking the spot about a lap later.

Out front it was all Bellefeuille, as he drove off to the victory ahead of Copp, Inman, Toppozini and Oreskovich.

Jeffrey Massingill (Tom Krob Photo)

In the WISSOTA Late Models, Jeff Massingill was the early leader after a quick battle with Harry Hanson for the top spot. Kevin Burdick got by Hanson and set out after Massingill, getting to his bumper several times, but Massingill was able to pull back out through lapped traffic. In the end, Massingill grabbed the victory, his second of the weekend, while Burdick had to settle for second. Tenth-starter Danny Vang improved seven spots to third, 12th-starter Tim McMann was fourth, and Ben Heinle was fifth.

Jake Smith took the lead with about five laps to go in the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature, having followed Justin Barsness for much of the race. Smith drove on to the eventual victory ahead of Aaron Bernick, Chaston Finckbone, Barsness, and Dylan Shelton.

Matthew Larson was the winner in a short field of USRA Late Models.
