WISSOTA nights come to a close at Ogilvie Raceway; Fall Classic features go to Doar, Atkinson, Jensen, Sabraski, Tourville, Holtquist, Grabon and Arnes

OGILVIE, MN (October 5) – Saturday night brought FYE Motorsports’ 21st annual MTH Fall Classic to its conclusion. The two-day event, held October 4-5, welcomed 327 drivers who signed in to battle, and broke the previous event record. A huge crowd of fans also filled the facility to soak in one of the final racing opportunities of the season.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Pat Doar, Landon Atkinson, Joey Jensen, Bobie Arnes, Shane Sabraski, Keith Tourville, Dustin Holtquist, and Rob Grabon.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off the night’s feature events with Keith Tourville in the lead. A few early cautions kept the drivers at a stop-and-go pace, but Tourville remained in command. Hunter VanGilder slid into second while Kyle Dykhoff grabbed third. The top three drivers pulled away from the field as laps began to click off. Tourville slowly stretched his lead, and began to work his way through lapped traffic.

A caution occurred with a few laps to go, which brought Dykhoff and Jim Gullikson to Tourville’s bumper. Although the late caution restacked the field, Keith Tourville held his line and took the win. Kyle Dykhoff, Jim Gullikson, Andrew Hanson and Levi Randt rounded out the top-five points.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled onto the track next, with Wyatt Boyum and Landyn Randt on the front row. Boyum claimed the lead as the green dropped, and Randt was three wide with Ashley Boyum and Joey Jensen. After a quick caution, Randt made the pass for first, and Jensen slid into second. The top drivers began to space out as Randt continued to hold off Jensen.

Jensen then dove low on the surface and slid up the track to pass Randt. Another caution reset the field; when the race resumed, Randt, Jensen and Jake Smith were three wide for the lead. Following a final restart, Jensen, Randt and Smith fought for first once again, with Smith taking second and keeping Jensen in his sights. With one lap to go, Jensen and Smith were side by side and Smith slid up to block Jensen in the final turn. Jensen charged out of turn four and crossed him over, taking the checkered flag in an exciting finish. Smith settled for second with Cole Boston, Blake Adams and Cody Borgeson the remaining top-five finishers.

Tyler Peterson was the early leader of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, with pressure from Ryan Mikkelson in the turns. Mikkelson slid by Peterson and with just eight laps complete, the top drivers were already navigating lapped traffic.

A couple cautions slowed the racers; back under green, Mikkelson, Peterson and Pat Doar remained at the front. Doar passed Peterson for second and looked ahead to Mikkelson, who was already making his way back through lapped traffic.

With just three laps to go, a significant piece of debris was on the top of the track and a final caution fell. Mikkelson brought the drivers back to green but felt the heat of Shane Sabraski and Doar to his deck lid. As the white flag waved, Doar was at Mikkelson’s door, and they remained close the final lap. Mikkelson led nearly the entire race, except the final last moments, as Pat Doar crossed the line first and took his sixth straight Fall Classic win. Mikkelson finished second, with Sabraski, Josh Zimpel and Jeff Provinzino in the top five.

Clayton Wagamon sped off early in the WISSOTA Modifieds feature with Ryan Gierke and Landon Atkinson behind him in a fight for second. The fight was short-lived, as Atkinson snagged the point and looked ahead to Wagamon. Atkinson caught Wagamon and as they prepared to work through lapped traffic, a yellow was triggered.

Drivers were realigned and battled three and four wide on the track surface when the race resumed. Wagamon and Atkinson again separated from the field and Atkinson dove low on the track to challenge Wagamon. Wagamon held the point, but Atkinson was close behind when Wagamon’s car stalled in the turn; Atkinson took the advantage to snag the lead.

One final restart reset the field, however Atkinson remained in control and after 12 years of racing FYE events, Landon Atkinson finally got his first event win. Wagamon, Sabraski, Andy Jones and Eric Lamm rounded out the top five, but following post-race tech, Kaden Blaeser was elevated to fifth.

Jason Havel and Shane Sabraski remained close during the opening lap of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, but at the end of lap one, Sabraski had the lead. Havel held second with Dave Mass and Tommy Richards in a battle for third, as other drivers in the field were two and three wide. The yellow lights flipped on for an incident and the field was reset.

Sabraski sped away on the restart with Dexton Koch, Dave Mass and Tim Johnson in tow. Johnson took third and looked ahead to Koch. Koch was busy chasing after Sabraski, and as laps passed without issue, drivers began to space out.

With a handful of laps to go, Sabraski worked his way through lapped traffic but he never slowed down, and took the win in his iconic No. 7a. Koch, Johnson, Denis Czech and Kolby Kiehl completed the top five.

The USRA Late Models joined the program on Saturday night, led to green by Matthew Larson and Cade Nelson. As the drivers geared up and took the green, contact occurred between Ryan Howe and Jason McFadden, which caused McFadden to roll violently. The race went red; thankfully, all drivers were ok.

Larson claimed the lead following the restart. Larson had a huge lead from the start with Nelson in second and Parker Gilbertson in third.

With five laps left on the board, Larson encountered lapped traffic, which allowed Nelson to close the gap. Nelson was right behind Larson as they were both stuck behind lapped traffic. Larson and Nelson battled to the finish, but Larson crossed the finish line first for the win. Larson was then disqualified, and Cade Nelson was declared the winner. Gilbertson, Larry Fitzsimmons, Kody Koski and Lucas Peterson were top-five finishers.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours struggled to get through their feature race with a multitude of cautions occurring throughout the 20 laps. Father and son duo Robert and Dustin Holtquist brought the drivers to green, and Dustin claimed the immediate lead. Robert kept close with Tyler Larson and Luke Erlandson also in top-five positions.

As lap five was scored, Robert cruised past his son for the lead and held the point a few laps, but Dustin reclaimed the point as Robert dropped out of the event. Erlandson raced in second and kept close to the leader, but didn’t have enough as Dustin Holtquist snagged the win. Erlandson, Tyler Larson, Blake Hawker and Dean Larson rounded out the top-five finishers.

Dustin Puffe and Kade Leeper raced closely during the opening lap of the WISSOTA Pure Stock event, and Puffe claimed the lead. Leeper, Eric Crosby and Brent Mindock battled three wide for second with Crosby edging out into the spot. Crosby then began to work Puffe for first as a car stalled in turn four and a caution was triggered.

Drivers were aligned and as the race resumed, Puffe, Crosby and Mindock all battled for the lead. Contact occurred among the drivers and Crosby took advantage, grabbing the top spot as Puffe dropped back. More caution periods followed, which allowed Rob Grabon to make his way into the lead, as Crosby, Leeper and Mindock raced three wide around the Big O. Mindock grabbed second, and with just two laps to go, he chased after Grabon. Although Mindock closed the gap, Grabon was too strong and took the Pure Stock feature win ahead of Brent Mindock, Kade Leeper, Eric Crosby and Austin Fencl in the top five.

The WISSOTA Hornets closed out program and after a rough go of getting laps in, Tony Jenson was the early leader. Bobie Arnes took second and chased after Jenson with laps cruising by. Arnes worked every groove and made his way to the door of Jenson. Arnes and Jenson raced side by side, rubbing and bouncing off one another lap after lap, until Arnes nosed out into the lead. Jenson didn’t back down and kept after Arnes as one final caution occurred.

Arnes, Jenson and Jenna Hagemann battled for first as the race resumed, but again Arnes pulled ahead of the competition. Jenson kept pressure on Arnes and tried to get a pass completed, however as the checkered flag waved, Arnes took the win. Jenson, Hagemann, Dexyn Habraken and Nikota Larson rounded out the top five.

It was early in the morning, but after eight hours of racing the 2024 Fall Classic was officially in the record books.
