Final features of the year at I-94 go to Gopher State winners Mars, Gerdes, Mass, Reinke, Brauer, Holtquist and Arnes

FERGUS FALLS, MN (October 10-11) - Race fans in central Minnesota got one last chance to see their favorite racers in action, as a nice field of 233 cars rolled in for FYE Promotions second annual Gopher State Showdown.

Heats ran on Friday with B mains and features Saturday. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Sam Mars, Brady Gerdes, Dave Mass, Nate Reinke, Kolton Brauer, Dustin Holtquist, Bobie Arnes.

A nice field of 22 WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green flag for the 25-lap feature with several young heavy hitters leading the way. Levi Randt jumped out front early, but had Kolton Brauer and Tommy Pogones—along with Ty Agen—close behind.

With 15 laps scored, Brauer and Pogones were side by side, but the car on the move was 20th-starter Cole Greseth. He moved into third with eight laps left. Two laps later things got wild as Brauer got by Randt for the lead, with Greseth and Agen swapping spots for third. When the checkered flew it was Brauer grabbing the win followed by Randt and Greseth on the podium.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods rolled into town with a field that was loaded with talent. The feature was led to green by hot shoes Nate Reinke and Blake Adams; Reinke grabbed the early lead in the 25-lap feature, but Adams was right on his rear bumper. On lap 11 they began to race through heavy lapped traffic and Adams got by Reinke. Two laps later Reinke retook the lead.

Jason VandeKamp joined the battle up front and the last lap was wild, as lapped cars raced with the leaders. Reinke hung on by a bumper for the win, with Adams and VandeKamp right on his heels for second and third, respectively.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were 17 cars strong when they took the green for the 30-lap feature. Trevor Nelson got off to a great start, as he moved from fourth to the lead on lap one. Dave Mass, making a rare appearance in the Super Stocks, was locked in a good battle with Dexton Koch. Mass finally grabbed second, and then with eight laps to go he ran down Nelson and passed him for the top spot a lap later. Jordan Henkemeyer was also in the mix.

Mass held off Nelson for the victory, with Koch taking the final podium spot in third.

A solid field of WISSOTA Modifieds also brought plenty of star power. The front row featured two of the best in the business in Brady Gerdes and Buzzy Adams. Gerdes grabbed the early lead with Adams and Landon Atkinson fighting for second. Tyler Peterson also made progress, as he and Josh Thoennes battled for fourth.

About the halfway point of the race, Atkinson slipped by Adams for second. Hard-charging Travis Saurer and Joe Thomas moved into the hunt, as Saurer cracked the top five into fourth from 17th, and Thomas was fifth from his 11th starting spot.

Out front, Gerdes and Atkinson really fought hard but finally Gerdes grabbed the win in a very entertaining race. Atkinson and Adams completed the podium.

The WISSOTA Late Models were led to green by Sam Mars and Don Shaw, with Mars having the early advantage. Dustin Strand moved in and began to pressure Shaw as the front-runners raced through heavy lapped traffic, drawing even with him with 10 laps complete. Shaw pulled back away from Strand, while Tyler Peterson held fourth. With 23 laps remaining, the caution fell and regrouped the field.

Mars led following the restart, as Shaw and Strand continued to battle back and forth for second, and Peterson and Justin Tammen fought for fourth. On the move was Pat Doar, who grabbed fifth a few laps later.

Following a late-race caution with seven to go, Doar displaced Strand and Peterson for third, while out front, nobody had anything for Mars, as he grabbed the win ahead of Shaw.

A small field of WISSOTA Mod Fours had a great battle, as Dustin Holtquist held off Tyler Larson for the win. Robert Holtquist was third.

It was a wild 25-car WISSOTA Hornet feature, as they fought threw six cautions. It looked like Jeff Rohner had the race in the bag, but nobody told Bobie Arnes that; he came out of nowhere on the last lap and shocked everybody, winning the feature by inches. Rohner and Brady Albertson completed the podium.

The Pro Legends were also part of the program for 2024, with 32 cars on hand. They put on a great show, and the talented Collin Compson held off several charges for the win. Dylan Johnson was very solid in second, while Joshua Wiest was third.

The Cliff Viessman, Inc. Gen X Late Models had 16 cars battle for the 20-lap feature, with Tony Croninger getting his third win of the season at the speedway.
