VADO, NM (January 10) – Racers from across the country gathered once again Wednesday at Vado Speedway park for the third night of the Wild West Shootout January 10.

Jesse Haynie and Eric McNutt brought the field to green in the X Mods to kick off action for the undercard. Haynie was the early leader ahead of Jake Haddox in second, while McNutt, Rob Moseley, Tanner Kade, Lisbon, North Dakota’s Nate Reinke and Kris Jackson were two and three wide for positions third through seventh for two laps.

Kade suffered a mechanical failure into turn four as the field came around to complete lap three, as competitors sliced and diced around him under green. Unfortunately, while still under green and Kade disabled now down the frontstretch, he was hit from behind and the incident prompted the yellow.

Haynie brought the field back to green, ahead of Haddox and Mosely. McNutt and Reinke were close behind in the top five.

With 14 to go Haynie continued to lead, while Reinke came under fire from Rivera for fifth.

Three laps later Haynie hit lapped traffic and was struggling to get around Israel Ortega, with Haddox closing in quickly. Haynie was able to move by the lapper and break out to a good advantage once more over Haddox with eight laps left on the board. Mosely, McNutt and Rivera raced in the top five, while Reinke was sixth, under pressure from JC Morton.

A caution for Reece Solander, who spun alone in turn four, brought the field to a halt.

With six laps to go, Haynie led the field back to green ahead of Haddox and Rivera in the second row. Rivera battled hard with Haddox for the next two laps for second, with McNutt and Reinke in the top five.

Haynie extended his lead out front, with Haddox in second and Rivera in third before a two-car spin brought the field back together for a two-lap shootout to the finish.

Haynie jumped out to a big advantage on the restart, with Haddox still under fire from Rivera for second, McNutt in fourth and Reinke in the top five. Haynie drove away for the victory, ahead of Haddox, Rivera, McNutt, Reinke, Jackson, Morton, Mosely, Donavan Flores and Devon Jobin in the top 10.

In the Modifieds, it was more of the same as Cade Dillard continued his dominance. He jumped out to the early lead ahead of Chatfield, Minnesota’s Lucas Schott, Nathan Smith, Tyler Davis and Lake Shore, Minnesota’s Dan Ebert in the top five.

One lap later, Smith drove by Schott to second. A spin with just three laps complete caused the caution to fall and brought the field back together again.

Dillard led the field back to green, as Schott regained second from Smith, and Ebert battled Davis for fourth. Smith worked back under Schott one lap later, and Davis displaced Ebert for sole possession of fourth. One lap later Schott jumped to the high side and began to work that lane while still in third, and the remainder of the top five ran along the bottom lane.

It became a game of nose-to-tail racing with 10 laps complete before a dustup in the back brought out the yellow, when Ricardo Olague went around and collected Gary Christian.

Dillard led the field back to green for the restart, as Schott tucked in behind in second. Smith was third, Ebert worked the high side close by to fourth and Jake O’Neil was on the move into fifth. Davis limped his car to the infield, and the race stayed green.

With 11 laps to go, O’Neil got by Ebert for fourth and was making the top side work; he drove by Smith two laps later, seemingly able to race anywhere on the track.

Dillard was still out front by a large margin with seven to go, followed by Schott, O’Neil, Smith, and Ebert in the top five. O’Neil continued to work the ultra-high line, making gains on Schott, who was along the bottom lane. With two to go, he was a handful of car lengths back, but couldn’t complete the pass before the laps ran out.

Dillard drove on to the dominating win ahead of Schott, O’Neil, Smith, and Ebert in the top five. Carlos Ahumada, Jr., Tyler Wolff, Johnny Scott, Steven Whiteaker, Jr., and Dereck Ramirez completed the top 10.
