Pierce wins second night at Vado from pole; former champs Weiss & Shaw garner top 10s

VADO, NM (January 7) - In a barn burner of a Super Late Model feature, Bobby Pierce executed a turn-three slider underneath Mike Marlar on lap 37, and led the remaining circuits to win Sunday's 40-lap second round of the 18th annual Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park.

Pierce slipped back as far as fourth after he led the first lap, and then rebounded to grab his ninth career miniseries feature victory and an $11,000 top prize for first triumph of the young 2024 season. Marlar, of Winfield, TN, led laps 2-36 before giving way to Pierce and finishing 2.167 seconds back. Tyler Erb turned in another top-five performance, Kyle Larson was fourth, and Cade Dillard was fifth.

Garrett Alberson, Shannon Babb, former WISSOTA National Champion Ricky Weiss, Tyler Stevens, and another former WISSOTA National Champion, Don Shaw, completed the top 10.

Of the other racers on hand with WISSOTA ties, Jake Timm was 18th, while Sam Mars finished 23rd.
