Adams makes road trip pay off at I-94 with Mod win; Mass, Reinke and Dykhoff deliver for their fans as well at Fergus Falls

By Ron Krog

FERGUS FALLS, MN (August 30) - Race fans in Fergus Falls gathered for the final regular season night at I-94 emr Speedway Friday night and bore witness to WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victories from Kevin Adams, Nate Reinke, Dave Mass, Kyle Dykhoff, and Dexyn Habraken.

Over the past 25 years or so, nearly every WISSOTA race fan has had a chance to watch Kevin “Buzzy” Adams race a time or two, and now with his son Blake becoming a rising star, Adams’ schedule has changed a little. Fans on Friday got to see what many of us already have witnessed, and that he is truly one of the best to ever run a WISSOTA Mod. It was not a big field of Mods at 14 cars, but there was plenty of talent. Adams and Zach Johnson went back and forth in the early laps, with Adams dusting the wall off in turn four many times.

Adams’ next challenge came from Don Eischens, who actually took the lead away three different times. Still, Adams stayed high on the track as many fans looked on in shock thinking he would surely wreck. He kept rolling along, however.

Then came Brady Gerdes, and he and Adams gave the fans a dandy show, as they went back and forth for the last nine laps of the race. The last four laps the outside cushion was gone, so Adams used the wall; he grabbed the thrilling win leaving fans in disbelief, complete with sparks off Adams’ car the last few laps. Gerdes, Eischens, 11th-starter Justin Froemming and Blake Jegtvig rounded out the top five.

Dusty Bitzan was crowned the 2024 track champion.

A nice field of 24 WISSOTA Late Models took the green flag, with Chase Gelling looking strong early on. Shawn Kirwin closed in, before Shawn Meyer grabbed the top spot and held on for five laps. With 13 laps to go, Dave Mass charged to the lead.

At this point, if Mass were to win the race, 24th-starter Cole Schill had to finish 11th or better to hold off Mass for the title. As the race came to its end, Mass took the win with Shawn Kirwin second and ninth-starter Don Shaw finishing third. Danny Vang and Jordan Tollakson completed the top five.

In the points race, as the white flag flew Schill had worked his way up to 12th, and then had to make a challenging pass on Cody Lee to move into 11th and give him the championship by one point.

A large field of 29 WISSOTA Midwest Mods took the green, but four early cautions dropped the field down to 20 cars. Nick Bruder was the early leader and actually opened up a nice advantage over the field, as Nate Reinke moved into second with Haley Dykhoff and Jake Molitor having a dandy battle for fourth. With 14 laps left, Reinke and Bruder swapped spots, and three laps later Reinke took the lead and held off a charging Tyler Bitzan for the win. Bruder came in third and Dykhoff was fourth. Jake Molitor completed the top five.

Nate Reinke was also crowned the 2024 track champion.

A solid field of 24 WISSOTA Street Stocks kept fans entertained, as they had several good battles going on throughout the field. Kyle Dykhoff led early on, but behind him it was mayhem as ninth-starter Ty Agen made his way to fourth. With nine laps to go, Agen, Derek Turner and Ty Schuler were three-wide for top-five spots. One lap later a yellow reset the field.

Following the restart, Agen threw a slider at Dykhoff to take the lead, only to have Dykhoff reclaim it. Dykhoff did not give up as he grabbed the win followed by Agen and Eric Riley on the podium. Darek Turner and 10th-starter Tyler Klugman were top-five finishers.

The WISSOTA Hornet class has been dominated by Jeff Rohner and Chase Pourrier, but Friday night Dexyn Habraken broke through for the victory. Pourrier and Kevin Wahl were second and third, while Nick Shirley and Jeff Rohner rounded out the top five.

Current national point leader Rohner took home the 2024 track championship.

Scott Harrington doesn’t get over to I-94 very often, but he always seems to make it count. He grabbed his third win of the season in the Gen X Late Models, while Ben Wolden was crowned track champ for the eighth time.

The speedway thanks Odyssey Steel Inc. and KJ Country 965 for their sponsorship of championship night. Next up at the track is the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 Sept 11-15.
