Peterlin puts Late Models in rearview at Hibbing while Broking, Sabraski and Blevins also get off to hot start on first night of Labor Day Shootout
By Chris Stepan
HIBBING, MN (August 31) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series made its annual pilgrimage to the Labor Day Shootout at Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, Minnesota Saturday, August 31, and local driver Kyle Peterlin blasted away from the field leading the final 31 circuits to take the checkered flag for the $3,000 victory, which was his fourth-straight Challenge Series victory at Hibbing Raceway dating back to July of 2023.
Peterlin and Travis Budisalovich earned the front row for the night’s 40-lap, $3,000-to-win feature event with Budisalovich getting the upper hand on the initial start from the pole.
Budisalovich led the first nine laps until Peterlin was able to work the bottom line to perfection and slipped by into the lead off turn four. The field then began to migrate to the bottom groove and rode single file until Jeff Provinzino clipped an infield tire on lap 33, bringing out the first caution of the night as he slowed with damage to the front end. On the restart, Peterlin took back off into the lead and ran away from the field for his third-straight Challenge Series win at his home track.
Tyler Peterson finished second with Jeff Massingill third. Fourth went to Ryan Mikkelson with Derek Vesel rounding out the top five.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, Mikey Blevins won the feature from fifth, taking the lead around lap 10 and taking home opening night honors ahead of polesitter Deven VanHouse, ninth-starter Michael Blevins, 10th-starter Sam Blevins, and Garrett Paull in the top five.
Shane Sabraski drove off with the WISSOTA Super Stock feature win, leading from start to finish to garner the victory ahead of Andy LaBarge, Dalton Carlson, Doug Koski, and Nic Lewis.
Bob Broking won the WISSOTA Modified feature about lap four and topped runner-up Shane Sabraski, who charged forward from 11th. Tanner Williamson, Andrew Inman, and Charlie Castle were top-five finishers.
In the Hornets, Justin Schelitzche won the main event to cap off the night. Trenton Beel, Louis Skaja, Jada Lore and McKenna Folstad completed the top five.
