KRA calls it a wrap with final 2024 event and the final features go to Eischens, Koch, Storck, Flickinger, Holtquist and Schelitzche
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (September 6) - The whole racing community finally had a reason to celebrate, as the weather was beautiful for the final night of the 2024 racing season at KRA Speedway Friday.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners were Zach Flickinger, Corey Storck, Bob Holtquist, Dexton Koch, Don Eischens, and Justin Schelitzche.
Matt Dittman jumped out front early in the WISSOTA Hornet feature, but Schelitzche moved from his fourth starting spot and took charge on lap two. Normally Dittman and national point leader Jeff Rohner are close behind or even leading, but Friday it was all Schelitzche, as he pulled away for a solid win. Dittman, Rohner, Christopher Blume, and John Schmitz were top-five finishers.
Early in the WISSOTA Modified feature, Tony Konold led the field, before Brandon Mehrwerth took over. As has been the case many times this year, Don Eischens moved into the lead from the second row and never looked back on his way to the eventual victory. Mehrwerth held on for second, with pressure from Ryan Flaten, who finished third. Konold and Nate Heinrich were top-five finishers.
The WISSOTA Mod Four feature was a family affair, as Bob and Dustin Holtquist fought it out early for the lead. Eventually Bob got control and cruised to a nice win followed by Dustin. National point leader Dean Larson grabbed third just ahead of his grandson, Blake Hawker. Rowan Tramm rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks put on a nice show, as Zach Schultz took the early lead with Shawn Fernkes and Eric Martini locked in a great battle for second. With six laps scored, Fernkes moved into second, but soon national point leader Dexton Koch moved past Fernkes into second, and then caught Schultz. He made a nice pass for the lead and the win with Fernkes solid in second. A very fast Brayden Hedtke charged up to finish third ahead of Martini, while Andrew Hedtke was fifth.
Corey Storck has had a tough season with mechanical issues, bad-luck crashes and even a leg injury among the challenges. On Friday, however, he was in top form as he took the lead three laps in and flew to the victory ahead of Ryan Putnam and a very impressive Taylor Willms in third. Kailey VanEps and Mark Martini were top-five finishers.
The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was a wild one, as 14 cars took the green. On lap one, there was a six-car pileup, but thankfully five of the six were able to continue. The first few laps continued to be a challenge as three more cautions slowed things down.
Once the racing got rolling, it was a dandy as Jimmy Williams led, but had heavy pressure from Kegan Stueve and Zach Flickinger. Five laps into the race, Flickinger made a nice move to pass Williams for the lead. Kolton Brauer was on the move from the back, as he followed Stueve and Austin Hamre, who were side by side for second for many laps. With two laps to go, Brauer made the move of the race, blasting from fourth to second. Flickinger drove to the victory ahead of Brauer, Stueve, Hamre, and 10th-starter Ethan Iiams in the top five.
Colty Schuler grabbed his 25th Pure Stock win of the season, while Adam Prieve held off Rick Schroeder to grab the Gen X Late Model feature.
KRA Speedway looks forward to seeing everyone next May for the 2025 season opener.
