Kids are winners at Brown County on a night when features fall to Becker, Arment, Nelson, Stark and Serr

ABERDEEN, SD (August 2) - Brown County Speedway roared back to action on Friday with its annual Kids Night. The festivities brought a lot of kids out to the track, as well as drivers, with 83 in the pit area set to battle.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Chad Becker, Kent Arment, Chris Serr, Trevor Nelson and Todd Stark.

The 19-car WISSOTA Midwest Modified field was brought to green by Nathan Jager and Nick Perry, but fourth-starter Todd Stark grabbed the lead on the opening lap using the cushion.

Caution struck on lap five as Perry, running third, spun out in turn one. Everyone was able to avoid him. Taylor Schmidt began to battle Stark for the top spot on the ensuing restart.

A series of back-to-back cautions delayed the battle. On the final restart, the battle intensified as Schmidt pulled alongside Stark coming to the white flag. Although Schmidt ran as hard as he could, he was no match for Stark as he scored his second win at BCS on the year. Schmidt, Jarod Klein, Dawson Zabel and Scott Hansen were top-five finishers.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up next with 18 drivers set to battle. Dusty Hyatt and Mike Mund brought the field to green and they fought for the top spot side by side for the opening three circuits; Mund finally grabbed the lead on lap four.

Caution struck as Cory Moser spun in turn three, collecting Jayden Michaelsohn and Serr. Michaelsohn’s night was done and Serr continued on, albeit with a mangled race car. As the race went back to green, Mund led a few more laps until Serr took the lead from him with eight to go.

Serr was in lapped traffic with five to go and was challenged by Jayden Bogh. The field was brought to a halt once again with three to go, as Michael Bogh’s right rear tire broke off in turn one - it sent him barrel-rolling four to five times, but thankfully Michael was okay and walked away under his own power.

The red flag set up a three-lap shootout and Jayden Bogh tried the cushion once again to challenge Serr, but Serr was too fast on the bottom and held on to grab his first win of the year, even with a damaged race car.

Mund, Rossow and Jodie Michaelsohn completed the top five.

Kent Arment (Cody Papke Photo)

Mike Rohwedder and Patrick Adler were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Modified feature, before third-place starter Arment grabbed the lead and brought sixth-place starter Mike Stearns along with him into second.

A few cautions plagued the race, but the final 13 laps ran without issue. Arment found lapped traffic with five to go, as he had a straightaway lead on the field. With two to go, Tyler Anglin, who started 10th, moved into second, but Arment was in another ZIP code as he grabbed his second Modified win at BCS this year. Cayden Schmeling, Garrett Gross, and Dylan Zabel were top-five finishers.

Trevor Nelson (Cody Papke Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks followed with 14 drivers on hand. Kody Lehr and Derek Zastrow - a pair of No. 7s - brought the field to green and Lehr grabbed the early lead.

Lehr’s time out front was short, as Trevor Nelson took the lead on lap four. Nelson checked out after that, and began to catch lapped traffic with 12 to go. He was able to extend his lead through traffic. Caution struck with three laps to go when Shawn Schnabel and Kaden Kampa got together.

It set up a three-lap shootout among Nelson, Nathan Grehl and Zastrow. When they took the green, Nelson instantly checked out again, and went on to win for the ninth time on the year.

In victory lane he stated, “After a rough month of sucking, it feels good to get one again.”

Grehl, Stewart Schipke, Matt Johnson and Zastrow chased Nelson to the checkered flag in the top five.

Chad Becker (Cody Papke Photo)

The WISSOTA Late Models had a healthy field on hand, with a night high of 20 drivers in the pit area. Justin Boomsma and Mike Rohwedder brought the field to green, but that’s all they could do as Chad Becker blasted from fourth to take the lead on the opening lap. However, caution struck on lap three from Thomas Weisgram spinning.

Becker blasted out to a sizable lead on the restart, and quickly found lapped traffic. While Becker began working through the backmarkers, Chase Gelling made a move to grab second after starting 12th. Gelling was railing the top side and was gaining on Becker.

Traffic was really heavy for Becker with 10 to go and Gelling closed the lead down to just two car lengths. Unfortunately, with four to go, Gelling jumped the cushion, folded the nose cone and went off the top of turn two, ending his night.

Becker had new challengers in Josh Skorczewski and Kent Arment for the restart. Arment strongly challenged Becker looking anywhere he could to get a run on him, but Becker was too strong on the bottom and held on for the win, which is his seventh overall in 2024.

Arment, Arthur, Skorczewski and Thomas Weisgram were top five finishers.
