Simpsons storm to Thunder City wins in Supers and MidMods on Wednesday while Chernosky churns out another in Mods and Makkinga scores in Streets

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (August 21) - The Simpson family doubled up their visits to victory lane Wednesday, as Thunder Bay race fans enjoyed WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing at Thunder City Speedway. David Simpson and Rick Simpson made victory a family affair, as they drove to wins in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods and Super Stocks, respectively.

Meanwhile Brandon Makkinga made his way to victory lane in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, and Cole Chernosky scored the win in the Modifieds.

Simpson started eighth on the grid in the Midwest Mods, taking the lead about lap 12 and scoring the win ahead of Jeff Kelly, who improved four spots to second. Glen Brown, 13th-starter Kevin Monteith, and ninth-starter Kolby Reed completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Chernosky started way back in the fourth row, picking his way forward and taking the lead just after the halfway point of the feature. He was chased to the checkered flag by Joel Cryderman, Riley Matthews, Scott McKinnon, and Adam Dennhardt.

Rick Simpson’s run in the Super Stocks started in row three. He made his way to the front early on in the feature, and hung on for the win by 1.691 seconds ahead of Chernosky. Eighth-starter Shawn Polonoski improved five spots to third, 12th-starter John Toppozini charged to fourth, and John Garrity rounded out the top five.

In the Street Stocks, Makkinga made his way into the lead about lap eight and was in command for the remaining 10 laps to score the win ahead of last week’s winner and eighth-starter Colt Germain. Twelfth-starter Darren Wolframe improved nine spots to third, David Mitchell was fourth, and Andrew Piilo was fifth.

Michael Shalley won again in the track’s Hornet class.
