PROCTOR, MN (August 18) - It was the final night of track points Sunday at Proctor Speedway, with extra money on the line for the WISSOTA Late Models, thanks to KME.

When the final checkered flag waved, Danny Vang, Brandon Copp, Austin Blom, Evan Checkalski, Chaston Finckbone, and DeJay Jarecki claimed the top honors.

One of the classes where the track points were on the line was in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods where Paul Ripley led Jimmy Latvala by just three points. Evan Checkalski set sail early in the feature, with Latvala second and under fire from Joey Jensen. Ripley charged through the pack early, gaining several positions, as Wyatt Boyum joined in the fun.

Out front, Jensen threw slider after slider at Checkalski, but Even refused to flinch, fighting off all threats. As the race reached its conclusion, Boyum started to challenge Jensen, and Jensen had his hands full. Checkalski drove home for the win, Jensen held second, Boyum finished third, Latvala was fourth and Ripley completed the top five. Latvala and Ripley ended in a tie for the championship honors.

Danny Vang led from start to finish to win the WISSOTA Late Model race, taking home $2,500 for the win. He started on the pole and pulled away immediately. Kevin Burdick made a nice charge up from seventh to second, while Darrell Nelson took third. Harry Hanson and Mike Bellefeuille rounded out the top five. Vang was also the champion in the Late Models.

Brandon Copp was just as dominant in the WISSOTA Modifieds, as he led from start to finish to take the feature win. This event went nonstop and he maintained a comfortable edge over Nelson and Jody Bellefeuille to claim the victory. Tanner Gehl and Nick Oreskovich were the remaining top-five finishers.

Oreskovich claimed the track title.

Austin Blom (Tom Krob Photo)

In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Austin Blom led from start to finish for the victory, though he had heavy pressure from Matt Deragon for much of the race. Deragon dropped low in each corner and tried to slide under Blom to take over the lead, but lap after lap, Blom fought him off.

They went at it for many laps, while eighth-starter Curt Myers made his presence known and it was a three-car battle for the win. As Deragon and Myers fought for second, Myers went up and over the track with just three laps to go. Myers chose to retire to the pits and the race resumed. Blom fought off all challenges in those last few laps and took the win over Deragon, Scott Lawrence, Shawn McFadden and Patrick Beeksma in the top five.

McFadden was crowned the champion.

The WISSOTA Pure Stock feature was led by three different drivers over the course of its 12 laps. Dylan Shelton was out front early, as Devin Fries tried to navigate past him. Eric Crosby rode the cushion from his second row starting spot past Shelton for the top spot, while Fries was still trying to get past him to take over the lead.

Chaston Finckbone moved up after starting eighth and with just four laps to go, he drove past the sliding Crosby, who began to struggle with the handling of his race car.

Crosby kept pushing, however, and was on Finckbone's rear bumper on the final lap; as he went for broke on the final turn, the maneuver backfired and he spun wildly across the track. The field was regrouped for a white flag, one-lap race to the finish.

While Finckbone held on for the win, Fries finished second and Tom Treviranus finished third. Brent Mindock and 11th-starter Shane Basina were top-five finishers.

Finckbone was also the track champion.

DeJay Jarecki (Tom Krob Photo)

DeJay Jarecki and Carson Gotelaere ran first and second throughout the 12-lap WISSOTA Hornet feature. While Justin Schelitzche pushed hard, he was never in a position to seriously challenge either. Rick Andrews, Jr. and Riley Terry completed the top five.
