Richardsons split open-wheeled features Friday at Red Cedar Speedway while fendered classes led by Anderson, Koch and Pogones

MENOMONIE, WI (August 16) - It was season championship night, along with military night, this past Friday at Red Cedar Speedway. The program was the final for track points, and the battles in a few classes were very tight going into the program.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Dexton Koch, Ashley Anderson, Tommy Pogones, and Jay and Jason Richardson.

Anytime WISSOTA Super Stock national points leader Dexton Koch starts near the front row of a Super Stock event, it is going to be tough to beat him. Koch jumped out front in the first set of turns and immediately took off. Meanwhile, Brandon Clemens, Doug Koski and Avery Anderson waged a battle for second. Clemens secured the spot and set his sights on Koch, with Koski and Anderson continuing to battle for third. After several cautions, Koch remained strong and was not to be denied, as he took home the feature win. Clemens, 11th-starter Terran Spacek, Koski, and Anderson rounded out the top five.

Tommy Pogones (Brent Creaser Photo)

Tommy Pogones was the early leader in the WISSOTA Street Stock division. Pogones took off to a huge lead, as Hunter VanGilder drove into second with Cody Kummer and Kammron Rose looking for an opportunity in fourth. VanGilder and Kummer started to close rapidly on the leader as they waged battle for second, but Pogones stepped it up and maintained his lead, driving to the win. Kummer was second, VanGilder was third, Rose finished fourth, and Chris Welk, Jr. rounded out the top five.

Jay Richardson (Brent Creaser Photo)

Jay Richardson and Matt Klukas led the field to green in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Richardson rode the high side of the speedway, as Klukas fell back. Jake Stai took over second, with Brady Larson running third. Jesse Bryan and Shadow Kitchner were also battling inside the top five and began to close on Larson. Richardson was too much for the field and drove to his second feature win of the season at Red Cedar Speedway. He was followed by Stai, Larson, Bryan and Kitchner in the top five.

Ashley Anderson (Brent Creaser Photo)

John Kaanta was the early leader in the WISSOTA Late Models and took off to a commanding lead. He looked to be well on his way to a feature win, but Ashley Anderson began working his way toward the front. Anderson drove past Daniel Bargender and Jake Redetzke and set his sights on second-place running Brett Shafer as the caution flew midway through the race.

Following the restart, Anderson moved into second and closed in on Kaanta. He pulled even with Kaanta and the two battled lap after lap, side by side. Anderson took advantage of one small slip-up from Kaanta and made his way into the lead. Anderson emerged victorious followed by Kaanta, Bargender, Redetzke and Mike Prochnow in the top five.

Buzzy Adams jumped to the immediate lead in the WISSOTA Modifieds, setting a torrid pace with Mike Anderson running second. Midway through the race, Anderson had closed slightly. Then disaster struck for Adams, as he was struck by the lapped car of Chris Wark entering turn three. It sent him hard into the wall and ended his night.

On the restart, Mike Anderson took command while Jason Richardson began to charge hard on the high side. Richardson pulled alongside Anderson and the two battled for several laps. Richardson pulled ahead of Anderson and drove to the feature win. Anderson ended up second, followed by Shane Halopka, Kennedy Swan, and Danny Thomas in the top five.

Jeff Schmitt eventually came out as the leader in the Hornet feature, following a wild start. Schmitt was smooth and steady and led coast to coast. He was followed by Preston Coombs, Mikey Crapser, John Schutz and Vanessa Seipel in the top five.

The speedway is off next week, but will return to action with its inaugural Labor Day Dash, Friday, August 30.
