Hanson, Bellefeuille, McFadden, Checkalski, Bernick and Ament score Sunday night feature wins at Proctor

PROCTOR, MN (August 11) - Proctor Speedway held its first responder appreciation night Sunday and though the threat of rain was ever present - and made an appearance - track work continued and the speedway completed its full program.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Harry Hanson, Jody Bellefeuille, Shawn McFadden, Riley Ament, Evan Checkalski, and Aaron Bernick.

Following a jump start, and an ensuing spin and caution on the next attempt at a go, Evan Checkalski jumped to the early lead in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. He kept out front for the full 15 laps to take his first win of the season at Proctor and second overall. Joey Jensen, who started 10th, moved to fifth in just one lap and then worked forward into second past 12th-starter Cody Carlson. A restart stymied Jensen’s effort, however, and Carlson got back past for runner-up honors. Paul Ripley and Jimmy Latvala completed the top five in a feature that had seven caution flags throughout.

In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, there were four yellow flags in the field’s attempts to get just one lap completed, before they were then able to run the rest of the race caution-free. Myron Basina held the lead for the first three laps before Shawn McFadden drove by for the top spot.

He had a good advantage over the field, as farther back Curt Myers picked his way forward from eighth to second, trying to track down McFadden. McFadden kept Myers behind him, however, as he drove on for the win. D.J. Keeler, Austin Blom and Kevin Salin were top-five finishers.

Harry Hanson (Tom Krob Photo)

Harry Hanson won his third feature this season at the track in the WISSOTA Late Models from his fourth-row starting spot. Ronnie Malecki and Eric Lillo took turns leading out front early, before Hanson got by into the top spot on lap four. Danny Vang did close in on Hanson a couple of times, but Hanson kept the lower groove blocked and drove on for the win. Vang, Tim McMann, Malecki and Ben Heinle completed the top five.

Jody Bellefeuille grabbed the lead on the opening lap of the WISSOTA Modified feature. As he hustled out front, Brandon Copp made the move to the top side of the track, and began to gain each lap on Bellefeuille.

Bellefeuille then changed his line, and Copp was unable to cut into his advantage afterward. Bellefeuille took the win ahead of Copp, with Nick Oreskovich, Andrew Inman, and Matt DePiero in the top five.

Aaron Bernick (Tom Krob Photo)

Aaron Bernick was another Proctor Speedway first-time winner Sunday night, as he started from the pole and led the entirety of the race for the win in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks. Chaston Finckbone came up from fifth to provide a challenge, and Bernick used the whole track to his advantage; Finckbone tried several different lines, but had to settle for second, with Brent Mindock third. Tom Treviranus and Dylan Shelton were top-five finishers.

Riley Ament picked up his first win ever Sunday to close out the night’s program in the WISSOTA Hornets. Though he spent most of the race in a three-way battle with DeJay Jarecki and Carson Gotelaere, he pulled out to have an advantage in the closing laps and drove on for the victory. Jarecki, Gotelaere, Justin Houck, and Andy Leino rounded out the top five.
