GRAND RAPIDS, MN (July 25) - Thursday night, Grand Rapids Speedway hosted another program of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action. Highlighting the night was a $2,500-to-win WISSOTA Late Model special. A field of 17 racers made for a good race in the Late Models, which was won by Shane Sabraski.

Sabraski also won in the Mods and Super Stocks, while Trenton Beel (Hornets), Jake Smith (Pure Stocks) and David Simpson (Midwest Modifieds) also brought home hardware.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were led to green by Darrin Lawler and Sam Kolar. Lawler was the early leader, while Scott Thompson and Kolar battled for second. Sam Blevins, Blake Adams, and Michael Blevins battled for top-five spots before a caution brought the field to a halt.

Following the restart with three laps scored, Lawler kept out front, while Kolar and Thompson battled for second. Adams raced the high line on the track and quickly got by them into second, and then challenged Lawler for the lead. Adams grabbed the spot, as Lawler then raced in second. Mikey Blevins then found the high line as well, and quickly stole second. Mikey began to make up ground to Adams, getting by a few laps later as Adams seemed to struggle with the handling of his race car; he began to fall back through the field and eventually pulled off into the infield. David Simpson was on the move into the top five before a caution for a spun racer toward the rear of the group brought the field back together.

Mikey Blevins was then out front for the restart, as Simpson battled with Sam Blevins to steal second. Simpson grabbed the spot and then drove by Mikey with about eight laps left for the lead. From there Simpson drove off with the victory. Mikey and Sam Blevins, 13th-starter Don Smith and Michael Blevins completed the top five.

Shane Sabraski (Melissa Pickett Photo)

Next out on the track were the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Sabraski and Doug Koski led the field to green, followed by Dan Severson and Matt Sparby in row two. Koski took the initial lead on green, as Sabraski snuck to the low side and stole second from Kevin Salin. He then began to challenge Koski for the lead along the high side of the track. Sabraski wasted no time in making his move to secure the lead. Dustin Nelson fought through the pack and stole third, while Dylan Nelson, Severson, and Salin raced for top-five spots. Dylan Nelson was able to pull away for fourth and inched in on Dustin Nelson halfway through the race.

It was all Sabraski out front, while second remained up for grabs until the final lap. On the last lap, Dustin Nelson, Koski, and Dylan Nelson raced together in a tight group for second, three wide at times, and at the checkered, Dustin Nelson took the spot. Dylan Nelson was third, and Koski ended up fourth. Dalton Carlson completed the top five.

Johnny Broking (Melissa Pickett Photo)

Kevin Burdick and Sabraski battled for the lead on the start of the WISSOTA Late Model feature, while Johnny Broking, Jeff Massingill, and Danny Vang argued over top-five spots. Sabraski quickly secured the lead from Burdick and inched away from the field. Broking was third, while Massingill battled with Vang for fourth, taking the spot along the backstretch.

Jeff Provinzino was on the move, making his way by Vang for fifth.

As the drivers began to navigate lapped traffic, Broking then challenged Burdick for second while Provinzino and Massingill battled side by side for fourth until a caution brought the field back together with five laps left on the board.

Sabraski set sail out front following the restart, while Broking secured second. Massingill, Provinzino and Burdick raced for the remaining top-five spots; Burdick fell back, as Provinzino and Massingill fought for third on the last lap. Sabraski took the checkered flag, with Broking, Massingill, Provinzino, and Burdick in the top five.

Ryan Jensen and Charlie Castle led the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green flag. Jensen was the early leader, but it did not last long as Kevin Adams got by along the low side and into the lead. Sabraski moved in and challenged Jensen to his inside for second, took the spot, and set out after Adams. He showed his nose in the corners of the track, bided his time, and made the pass on Adams for the lead. Castle raced in third, while Jensen was fourth under pressure from Bob Broking.

Broking quickly made up time along the ultra high side of the speedway; he got by Castle and then Adams a handful of laps later, as Adams began to feel the heat from Castle, who got back by into third.

With five to go, Adams fought back along the high side, and was scored in third the next time by. Out front, Sabraski drove to the third win of the night, with Broking, Adams, Castle and Josh Beaulieu in the top five.

Jake Smith (Melissa Pickett Photo)

A small pack of WISSOTA Pure Stocks then rolled onto the track next with Alex Berg and Jake Smith out front. A caution early on regrouped the field, with Smith in the lead under green. Berg and Justin Barsness were behind.

Barsness challenged Smith to the high side with Chaston Finckbone close behind. Ethan Elhardt secured fourth, with Puschinsky fifth. Finckbone was side by side with Barsness for second, with Finckbone getting the spot about two laps later.

Smith drove on to the win, holding off a charging Finckbone. Barsness, Elhardt, and Puschinsky finished out the top five.

Trenton Beel (Melissa Pickett Photo)

The WISSOTA Hornet class had a tough race Thursday, featuring some rough driving and many wrecks. To start the race, polesitter Easton Pfeiffer was punted in the first turn and spun around in front of the whole pack.

Mikayla LaBarge was the leader for the restart, and held it through the midpoint of the race. Trenton Beel and Tristan McLynn then caught LaBarge, with McLynn getting by for the top spot, before a yellow regrouped the field and put LaBarge back out front.

Back under green, with four laps to go, McLynn and Beel passed LaBarge for the lead and went at it for the top spot. Beel made contact with McLynn off turn two, and took over the point. When McLynn made his way back on the track, he clipped LaBarge in second and she was turned around and hit hard, head-on by another driver, which triggered the red flag.

Beel held on for the final two laps to take the win over Ryker Larson and Anastashia Chavez. Bonnie McLynn and Tristen McLynn rounded out the top five.
