Chernosky chops up two feature fields at Thunder City while Simpson and Wolframe win the other WISSOTA classes

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (July 17) - It was Tom Jones Corp. night Wednesday, July 17 at Thunder City Speedway. Following fast and thrilling action on the track located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Cole Chernosky, who picked up two trophies on the night, David Simpson, and Darren Wolframe.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Chernosky started way back in the fourth row. For the first eight laps, he patiently worked his way forward, taking the lead from front-row starter Shawn Polonoski on lap eight. For the next 10 laps, he led the way to victory lane, taking the checkered flag ahead of Joel Cryderman, Riley Matthews, 10th-starter John Toppozini, and Polonoski, who slipped back to fifth.

Simpson had a tough go of it in the first two laps of the 18-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Starting fifth on the grid, he slipped back to eighth during the second lap, but worked his way forward during the third tour of the speedway, grabbing second. The next time around, he took over out front from front-row starter Tanner Henderson and wheeled his way to the checkered flag for the next 14 laps. He was followed to the stripe by Curtis Stieh, who displaced Henderson for second, Kyle Monteith and 10th-starter Kevin Monteith in the top five.

Piilo had to settle for second, seventh-starter Cory Ward improved four spots to third, ninth-starter Kyle Bolt finished his charge in fourth, and Nathan Henny completed the top five.

Lap four of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature was good for four spots for eventual winner Chernosky, who doubled up with the win in the fendered class following his open-wheeled win in the Modifieds. Chernosky moved from fifth to the top spot about four laps in and drove off to the victory. Fellow fourth-row starter Rick Simpson finished second, John Garrity was third, ninth-starter John Toppozini was fourth, and Danny Young finished fifth.

In the track’s Hornet class, eighth-starter Michael Shalley improved seven spots to garner the victory. Jesse Owen, Nate Owen, Selena Owen, and Avery Chaschuk rounded out the top five.
