GRAND RAPIDS, MN (June 27) - Grand Rapids Speedway held another action-packed night of racing before its Fourth of July break. It was a quicker evening of racing with less cautions and more action.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Payson Patrin, Derek Vesel, Dylan Nelson, Michael Blevins, Sr., and Chaston Finckbone.

First to start off the features were the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Sam Kolar and Michael Blevins, Sr. led the pack on the track, and when the green flag flew, Kolar stole the initial lead. Blevins, Sr. raced in second, while sixth-starter Mikey Blevins moved to third, Scott Thompson raced in fourth and Justin Feltus hung onto fifth. Blevins, Sr. looked to the low side of Kolar to set up the pass, but was not able to get around until two laps later. Mikey Blevins followed through to second before a caution for a Jerry Morgan spin.

Back under green, Blevins, Sr. led the pack out front with Mikey behind in second. Thompson, Kolar, and Mervin Castle III battled for third; Castle used the low side to sneak around the group and grab the spot. A second caution flag was thrown when two drivers spun in corner four.

Blevins, Sr. continued to lead the pack following the restart, with son Mikey right behind until the final caution period. Blevins, Sr. garnered the eventual win while Mikey Blevins and Castle battled right to the checkered flag for second; Castle snuck by for the spot. Blevins secured third, David Simpson followed in fourth and Justin Feltus rounded out the top five.

Dylan Nelson (Shannon Reigel Photo)

Dustin Nelson and Matt Sparby led the front row to the green in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, with Nelson shooting out to the immediate lead. Andy LaBarge shook out of a three-way battle with Dylan Nelson and a fading Sparby into second. Dylan Nelson was third, Max Dondelinger was fourth, and Sparby settled into fifth before a caution flag was thrown when Dan Severson spun on the track.

Dustin Nelson led the field back to green, retaining the lead ahead of his son Dylan, who got by LaBarge to second. Dondelinger held fourth, while Carlson got by Sparby into fifth.

Out front, Dylan Nelson challenged Dustin Nelson for the lead side by side. Dondelinger then closed in on LaBarge in third. Dylan got by his dad with a slight lead the next lap, and began to pull away in the ensuing go-round. Another caution flag was thrown when Severson spun again.

Dylan Nelson led the restart, as LaBarge challenged Dustin Nelson for second side by side. Carlson made his way by Dondelinger to fourth. Dondelinger returned the favor a lap or so later.

With laps winding down, Dustin began to close back in on Dylan, but time ran out. Dylan drove on to the victory ahead of Dustin, with LaBarge nipping Carlson for third. Sparby completed the top five.

Derek Vesel (Shannon Reigel Photo)

Skeeter Estey and Derek Vesel led the WISSOTA Late Models onto the track, with Estey the early leader. Vesel used the high side of the track to drum up the momentum to get Estey a few short laps later. Jeff Massingill raced to third, Jeff Provinzino was fourth and Johnny Broking was also in the mix.

Vesel, Estey, Provinzino, Massingill, Kyle Peterlin and Zach Wohlers all raced in the front of the pack battling for positioning. Provinzino drove by Estey, with Massingill following through to third. Massingill tried to challenge Provinzino for second, but was not able to make it work. Vesel grabbed the victory ahead of Provinzino, Massingill, Peterlin, and Estey in the top five.

Johnny Broking (Shannon Reigel Photo)

In the caution-free WISSOTA Modified feature, Ryan Jensen and Charlie Castle led the drivers to the green, before Johnny Broking shot into the top spot. Bob Broking followed through to second, as Josh Beaulieu raced around Jensen and stole third. Jeffery Wood looked for a way by Jensen, and when Jensen lost control of the car, Wood capitalized, getting by for fourth and then passing Beaulieu for third. Charlie Castle was fifth.

Johnny Broking took the eventual victory, with Bob Broking, Wood, Beaulieu, and Castle in the top five.

Chaston Finckbone (Shannon Reigel Photo)

In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Justin Barsness and Austin Carlson led the field to green, with Barsness the early leader. Jake Smith and Ethan Elhardt kept close in third and fourth. Chaston Finckbone picked his way forward, eventually challenging Barsness in the lead. As the race neared its completion, Barsness began to feel the heat from Finckbone and Carlson; Carlson and Finckbone battled for the lead, while displacing Barsness to third, but Finckbone had just enough to steal the win. Finckbone took the checkered flags, ahead of Carlson, Barsness, Elhardt, and Klein in the top five.

Cade Johnson and Michael Lefler led the WISSOTA Hornets onto the track for the final feature of the night. The Hornets had a rough start with three cautions right away. When they finally got going, Lefler led with Payson Patrin close in second. A.J. House and Tristen McLynn battled side by side for third, as out front, Patrin challenged Lefler for the lead. It took a couple laps, but Patrin moved into the lead, as McLynn, House, Lefler and Zeb Graves argued over top-five spots. A caution flag came out for a spun driver and they bunched back together.

Following the restart, McLynn tried to steal the lead from Patrin, but he kept him behind to the checkered flag. House, Andy Leino, and Joseph Puidokas took top fives for the evening.
