River Cities runs on a rare Sunday as Outlaws race into town; WISSOTA wins go to Hunter and Hess

GRAND FORKS, ND (June 28) - The World of Outlaw Late Models were in town Sunday night at River Cities Speedway, in a postponed show from Friday night due to rain.

WISSOTA Midwest Mods and Street Stocks were also part of the program. Winners included Austin Hunter and Trey Hess in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, while Brian Shirley scored the emotional win in the World of Outlaws action.

It was a feature of attrition Sunday in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. Hunter, who started seventh, survived multiple wrecks - including one that hobbled racers in the top five - and took the lead on lap 10. From there, he drove to the victory ahead of Jory Berg, Cylen Vargason, 15th-starter Joseph Thomas, and 16th-starter Connor Drewry in the top five.

Hess, who had an absolute stellar weekend in the WISSOTA Street Stock class, collected his third win of the weekend after he started seventh in the field Sunday. He picked his way forward and took the lead about the midpoint of the race, driving on to the win ahead of a side-by-side battle for second between Cole Greseth and John Halvorson. Greseth had the advantage at the stripe, while Halvorson’s charge from ninth ended with the final podium spot. Eleventh-starter Seth Klostreich and Bryce Reimer completed the top five.

Shirley led the Late Model feature from start to finish to take the $12,000 check, ahead of Devin Moran and Max McLaughlin in the top three.
