MENOMONIE, WI (July 12) - Red Cedar Speedway hosted the annual Duane Mahder Memorial Friday, with WISSOTA Late Models, Super Stocks, and Modifieds part of the program. Finally, this event was blessed with beautiful weather after many tries and dismal results during the 2023 version.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included A.J. Diemel, Shane Halopka, and Curt Myers.

Nick Anvelink and Jesse Glenz led the Late Model field to the green flag in the 50-lap feature. Anvelink took the top spot, with heavy pressure from Glenz.

Glenz wasted no time as he shot to the lead, but Anvelink drove back to the outside and blasted back past Glenz coming to the start/finish line. As the two were side by side, they made contact and Glenz was sent spinning on the frontstretch. Glenz was tagged with the caution and Anvelink was scored the leader.

On the restart, Anvelink took command of the race as Mike Prochnow began to charge forward, settling into second. A.J. Diemel and Ashley Anderson started to move forward, putting down smooth and consistent laps on the low side of the speedway. Both drivers moved past Prochnow and started to charge toward the leader. Diemel closed in and started to eye up Anvelink. As they worked through lapped traffic, Anvelink and Diemel went to work around one lapped car in particular; Diemel went high, and Anvelink went low, splitting the lapped car. Diemel drove to the lead coming into turn one along the high side, as Anvelink and the lapped car made contact out of turn two down the backstretch. Into turns three and four, contact then occurred between Anderson and Anvelink, with Anvelink spinning. The caution came out and Anvelink retired for the night.

Diemel resumed the race as the leader with about a handful of laps left on the board, and he drove off to the win, followed by Anderson, Prochnow, Jim Carlson and James Giossi.

Shane Halopka (Brent Creaser Photo)

Cory Mahder took the lead early in the WISSOTA Modified division, with Danny Thomas looking to the outside for the lead. Mahder prevailed as Shane Halopka worked past Thomas for second, and started to charge toward Mahder; Halopka shot to the outside and rolled past Mahder. Behind them Kevin Adams and Kennedy Swan began to roll forward and close in on the leaders.

Adams eventually dove past Mahder into second and started to close on Halopka for the lead, with Mahder also still in close pursuit. As the front three took the white flag into turn one, Mahder made contact with Adams, which sent both cars spinning. Mahder was charged with the caution, setting up a green, white, and checkered finish.

On the restart Halopka had the lead, but Kennedy Swan rolled the bottom side of the speedway and drew even with Halopka, with Adams in very close pursuit as well. The three battled tightly for the win, but Halopka prevailed as the winner followed by Swan, Adams, a hard-charging Kaden Blaeser, and Jake Hartung in the official top five. Competitors in the middle of the field came together in a large crash as the leaders took the checkered flag, marring the end of the race.

Curt Myers (Brent Creaser Photo)

Avery Anderson and Andrew Davis battled for the lead immediately in the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Anderson stayed strong and took the eventual lead while Curt Myers worked past Davis. As the battle up front was starting to heat up, a massive pileup behind gathered several top contenders and the caution brought a halt to the action.

On the restart, the veteran Myers quickly took the lead and drove off. D.J. Keeler moved past Anderson into second, but never had anything for Myers. Myers took the win followed by Keeler, Anderson, Davis and Ron Mahder.

Join us next week for Kids Night and Alumni Night at the speedway. A firework show follows the races.
