Koch and Tourville tame the speedy fields of WISSOTA Super Stocks and Street Stocks at KRA Speedway

WILLMAR, MN (July 11) - The race track at KRA Speedway has been empty for the last three weeks, as rain kept everything at a standstill. Finally a beautiful night and a field of great cars broke down the gates for a super night of racing. Kent’s Auto Body sponsored the show, with the IMCA Stock Cars and the Cliff Viessman Gen X Late Models to join the WISSOTA Street Stocks and Super Stocks, along with the track’s Pure Stocks.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Dexton Koch and Keith Tourville.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks had a busy night, as they ran their makeup feature from June 6. Shawn Fernkes and Jake Knapper sat on the pole, and as usual those two had a great battle for the early lead. Dexton Koch, who started seventh, was on the move and charging through the field. On lap five of 20, Koch got by Knapper, and was then alongside Fernkes for the next two laps. Koch took charge and went on to grab the win ahead of Fernkes. During the final three laps of the race, Zach Schultz and Andrew Hedtke were in a hard-fought battle for third, but Eric Martini slipped by into the spot before the checkered, ahead of Hedtke and Schultz in the top five.

In the night’s regular Super Stock feature, Gary Husmann and Schultz had a good battle for the lead for the first three laps, until Knapper got by Husmann and then fought hard with Schultz for position. Farther back, Koch came from his eighth starting spot to take over second, and put some heavy pressure on Knapper, while Martini and Schultz were in a good battle for third. As the race came to an end, Koch grabbed his second win of the night followed by Knapper, Schultz, Martini and Hedtke.

A nice field of 21 WISSOTA Street Stocks put on a dandy show, as Taylor Willms and Jimmy “Nitro” Williams fought for the early lead. On lap five of the 20-lapper, Keith Tourville came calling and took charge, leaving Williams and Joe Martin to battle for second. Justin Vogel quietly made his way through the field, as he moved to fifth with nine laps left, and then into third three laps later; Braden Brauer was right behind him in fourth. Things got pretty wild for the last three laps, as Vogel took over second, with Brauer third. During the last two laps, Vogel caught Tourville and got to the outside of him on the final lap. Coming off turn four the two got together just a bit and Tourville hung on for the win, with Brauer taking advantage of the situation to steal second by inches ahead of Vogel.

In the Pure Stock feature, Coltyn Schuler stayed hot and grabbed the win.

Towmaster Trailers brought in the Cliff Viessman Gen X Late Models and a nice field of 10 cars competed, in a class which has been a nice feeder for the WISSOTA Late Model class. Adam Prieve made a fantastic pass coming off turn four, as he, Brad Staples and Tony Croninger were three wide, with Prieve taking the win.

A nice 19-car field of IMCA Stock Cars was on hand, with Jonny Carter - the former WISSOTA national Street Stock champ - holding off Dan Aberle and a charging Jim Horejsi for the win.
