On Hall Of Fame Night, Burdick, Bellefeuille, Simpson, McFadden, Finckbone and House make headlines at Proctor Speedway
PROCTOR, MN (June 2) - It was Hall of Fame and the Old Timers Picnic afternoon at Proctor Speedway Sunday, June 2, where fans witnessed the induction of Jerry Waldholm, Terry Inman, Phil Rannila, Dave Ruby, Gordy Halverson, Rick Popovich, Dick Christman, Jim Eliason, Gordy Eliason, Johnny Johnson, and Billy Nelson into Proctor’s Hall of Fame.
On the track, WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Kevin Burdick, Jody Bellefeuille, David Simpson, A.J. House, Shawn McFadden and Chaston Finckbone.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mods started the feature action, led to green by David Simpson and Blake Adams. Simpson was the early leader ahead of Adams and Sam Blevins. Jimmy Latvala was third, and Tyler Vernon and Sam Blevins fought for top five spots.
Adams began to feel pressure from Latvala before a caution for a spun racer.
Following the restart, Simpson stepped out to the lead, followed closely to his inside by Adams. As they entered turn three side by side, Adams spun and the field was back under yellow once again.
Simpson drove out the lead following the green, with Vernon and Latvala in a side-by-side battle for second, with Evan Checkalski close behind. A caution brought the field to a standstill once more.
Once underway again, Simpson remained the leader with the battle for second between Latvala and Vernon heating up just behind him with 10 to go. They got about two more laps in before a caution fell for debris.
The race was green, white, checkered and Simpson took the win, just ahead of seventh-starter Latvala, who won the race-long battle for second with Vernon. Jason VandeKamp and Cory Jorgensen completed the top five.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next, led by Scott Lawrence and Alex Myers from the front row. McFadden slid by Lawrence to lead the opening lap before spins in the back of the field halted progress.
McFadden led them back to green with one lap completed, as Lawrence held second and battled for the top spot. Darin Meierotto was third, Curt Myers was fourth and Rick Simpson was fifth before another multi-car spin dropped the yellow. Another yellow on the restart for a Simpson spin, tagged to Curt Myers, kept the field under yellow.
Following the restart, McFadden led out front once more, as Lawrence was pushed far up the track and fell back through the field. Meierotto was second, and Simpson was third before another caution fell.
The field was sent to a green, white, checkered finish, and Simpson was able to slip by Meierotto for runner-up honors. McFadden drove on to the victory ahead of Simpson, Meierotto, Doug Koski and Kyle Copp.
A small field of WISSOTA Modifieds was led to green by Brady Uotinen and Tyler Vernon from the front row, with Nick Oreskovich and Brandon Copp in row two. Uotinen led early on, ahead of a three-wide battle for second among Oreskovich, Vernon and Jody Bellefeuille, who had started inside row three. Bellefeuille grabbed the spot as Kevin Adams blasted into third from the back of the pack.
About two laps later, Bellefeuille was within striking position for the lead when a caution fell for a Donnie Lofdahl spin.
With the field regrouped, Bellefeuille and Adams were side by side for second while tracking down Uotinen. Bellefeuille broke out to the high side and blasted by Uotinen for the lead. Adams was third, while Oreskovich and Vernon were engaged in a side-by-side fight for fourth. A caution for debris fell with 11 remaining laps.
Following the restart, Bellefeuille checked back out to the lead, but as Adams entered turns one and two, it appeared he clipped the tires and he went around.
Bellefeuille checked out on the field following the restart, with Oreskovich, Vernon, Copp and Uotinen the top five racers left on the track.
At the checkered flag, Bellefeuille grabbed the victory ahead of Oreskovich, Vernon, Uotinen and Copp.
The WISSOTA Late Models were next on track, led to the green by Ronnie Malecki and Harry Hanson. Hanson was the early leader, with Provinzino pressuring for the lead. Provinzino grabbed the spot on the next go-round, before a caution fell and regrouped the field.
Provinzino drove back out to a healthy lead ahead of Hanson, who was under fire from Burdick for second. Massingill and Tim McMann were side by side for fourth.
Burdick worked by Hanson for second with 20 laps to go, and Massingill got by McMann for third a lap later, while Provinzino had more than a second lead out front.
Burdick was quickly making up the distance to Provinzino. Things got dicey between the two as they tried to duck under a lapped car, with Provinzino prevailing in the lead.
Burdick regrouped, searching the track for a way by the No. 28. Hanson was third, Massingill was fourth and Danny Vang was fifth. With six laps to go, Massingill grabbed third.
With three to go, Burdick used lapped cars to his advantage to slip past Provinzino before a yellow fell for Vang.
Burdick led the green, white, checkered dash to the finish, ahead of Provinzino and Massingill. Massingill got by Provinzino on the next lap for second, as Burdick took the victory. Vang and McMann completed the top five.
In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Dillon Shelton was the early leader ahead of Jake Smith and Aaron Bernick, with Chaston Finckbone moving by Bernick into third.
Two laps later Smith moved to the inside of Shelton in the battle for the lead; Shelton held him off, as Bernick and Finckbone were tight to their bumps. Finckbone dropped to the bottom and it was three wide for second. Bernick shook out into second and got by Shelton the next time by, with Finckbone following through to second.
One lap later, Finckbone had the advantage down the backstretch and took command as they completed the lap. From there it was all Finckbone, as he drove to the victory ahead of Bernick and Shelton in what was a thrilling Pure Stock race.
Derek Dunbar and Joseph Puidokas led the field of WISSOTA Hornets to the green flag. Puidokas was the early leader ahead of Dunbar, as A.J. House shot from sixth to third in the first lap. One lap later House took second, as they were three and four wide behind House for third on back.
Following a caution for debris, Puidokas quickly came under fire from House, who got by along the high side as the field went green to complete the lap. Jarecki was second, just ahead of Carson Gotelaere. About two laps later Gotelaere drove by for second.
With three to go, Gotelaere was right on the bumper of House, but House hung on for the victory. Jarecki was third ahead of Puidokas and Justin Houck.
