Schill speeds to a win that beats both the Midwest Mod field and the rain at River Cities Speedway

GRAND FORKS, ND (June 21) - For just the third time this season, fans saw a night of racing at the Bullring completed before a rainout... for the most part. The first night of the Greater Grand Forks Fair races were again conducted in “hurry-up” mode, as Mother Nature had plans of her own.

When all was said and done, Lance Schill and Mark Dobmeier beat their fellow competitors and the rain to score wins on Friday night. The night ended, however, before the makeup WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature could be completed.

The Rebel Mod Tour made its way to Grand Forks after Thursday night's event at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Jamie Dietzler and Taylor Jacobson led the 25-lap WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature to green. Dietzler led the opening lap, as Jory Berg and Hunter Hougard moved into second and third, respectively.

The weather played a factor early, as the field fought through sprinkles to try and get the race completed. Between early cautions, Lance Schill was able to climb to second and challenge Dietzler for the lead.

Dietzler and Schill pulled away by a half straightaway by the midway point, but Berg and Matt Schow began to reel in the leaders as they approached traffic with 10 circuits showing on the scoreboard.

With three to go, Schow had taken third as he, Dietzler and Schill went three-wide in turn one for the lead before the final pair of cautions set up a three-lap shootout. The trio again went three-wide for the lead on the final restart, with Schill coming out of it on top.

Schill led the final three laps to garner the win over Schow, Dietzler, Lucas Rodin, and Nate Reinke.

Mark Dobmeier and the night’s fastest qualifier, Gage Pulkrabek, started on the front row of the 25-lap NOSA Sprint feature. Dobmeier took the lead at the start as Zach Omdahl moved into third.

Dobmeier was already in traffic just two laps into the race, but continued to set a torrid pace out front. Dobmeier had a trio of lapped cars in front of him, but a lap eight caution cleared the traffic for the leader.

Following a great restart for Dobmeier, he continued to lead until the second caution of the race two laps later. Pulkrabek closed in on Dobmeier for the lead following his own restart effort, but Dobmeier was again able to pull away as they started working traffic again.

Dobmeier again pulled away following a third caution at the midway point, this time by nearly a straightaway. With seven laps to go, the leaders had lapped the field to nearly the top 10, but Pulkrabek had reeled Dobmeier in to try and take the lead.

In turn one, Pulkrabek got loose as he tried to make the pass for the lead and spun to a stop. With five to go. Pulkrabek hit an infield tire bringing his night to an end.

Dobmeier continued to pull away on the late-race restart, as he left Zach and Nick Omdahl to battle for second. Dobmeier led flag to flag winning his second feature of the season over Zach and Nick Omdahl.
