Rice Lake gets too much rain to make racing a reality on Saturday night

RICE LAKE, WI (June 22) – A week of heavy rains in the Rice Lake area made Rice Lake Speedway far too wet for racing activity to take place on Saturday night. With more rain on the way, a decision was made early to cancel the racing action Saturday, with the UMSS Sprints the scheduled feature attraction.

The speedway and UMSS officials are actively seeking another date to present both the Winged and Traditional Sprints and an announcement on that is expected in the next week or so.

The speedway has been having terrible luck with the weather of late. Saturday night's rainout marked the third straight rainout for the track during the 2024 racing season. The last night of completed action was way back on June 1.

The speedway will try again next Saturday night, June 29 with Hall of Fame night the special attraction. Paul Gilberts, Tony Bahr, Dick Hessler and Tammy Sirek are set to be added to the Rice Lake Speedway Hall of Fame.

Along with the Hall of Fame presentation, a full program of WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will be on the schedule, with drivers anxious to get back on the track.

Race time on Saturday will be 6 p.m. with the pits opening at 3 p.m. and the spectator gates at 4 p.m.

The Fastlane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series race, originally scheduled for June 6, has been rescheduled to Wednesday night, July 3 where it will now be a part of the Firecracker special, making this one of the biggest races of the entire racing season. A field of more than 30 Super Stocks is expected to be on hand for this event.

The Midwest Modifieds, who were also scheduled to be a part of the original race and competing for an increased purse, will also have their portion of the program moved to July 3, when they will be racing for $600 to win. The WISSOTA sanctioned Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be a part of this mega program.

The Firecracker special is famous for its fireworks display to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday and is a large crowd attration on its own with typically the largest crowd of the entire racing season on hand that night.

Rice Lake Speedway LLC has promised that they will be presenting the largest and most spectacular firecworks display in years and perhaps ever, as a part of this years's program, showing their continuing committment to make the speedway the best fan attraction in the area.

On July 3, the pit gates will open at 4 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m. and the first race begins at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and secure their favorite seats on a night when a large crowd is expected.

As a bonus to the fans, regular admission prices will be in effect for this very special event.

The Relay at the Races, planned as a part of the June 15 program, has not as yet been rescheduled as track officials look to find the best date to add that event back to the schedule. Expect an announcement on that event soon.
