Casino’s Sunday jackpot winners: Peterson, Thomas, Nichols, Stark, Rossow, Broksieck & VanDerostyne

By Tony Steuck

WATERTOWN, SD (June 16) - Casino Speedway added three makeup features to the list of events on Sunday night. All together, Tyler Peterson, Joseph Thomas, Tommy Nichols, Todd Stark, Andy Rossow, Maria Broksieck, and Adam VanDerostyne pocketed the WISSOTA Dirt Track Series wins.

Peterson stole the lead from Chuck Swenson on lap 10 of 25 in the WISSOTA Late Model main event. He slipped away for his second win of the season in Watertown. Chad Becker moved around Swenson in the late stages for the runner-up finish.

Thomas and Tony Konold battled over the opening laps of the WISSOTA Modified feature. Thomas settled into the top spot, and maintained a small-to-medium-size lead to the checkers. Konold held off Bryce Borgen for second.

Tommy Nichols held a big lead until a late caution in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event. Older brother Mike was on his bumper after the restart, but could not keep pace and Tommy became the fifth different winner in five races this season. Mike Nichols was second and Terry Reilly was third.

In the makeup feature for the division, Scott Hansen opened a big lead over a six-car battle for second through much of the opening half. Stark shook out into the second spot before a lap 11 caution, after which he used the inside groove to steal the lead from Hansen with five laps to go. Stark turned back Derek Rieck for the win, and Hansen slipped to third by the finish.

Rossow never entertained a challenge in the caution-free WISSOTA Street Stock main event, and captured his first win of the season at the speedway. Maria Broksieck navigated around Tony Miller for second with three laps to go.

Broksieck started fourth in the Street Stock makeup feature. She was second out of turn two on the opening lap, and grabbed the lead out of turn four. She raced to nearly a half-track advantage in the caution-free race for her second win this season, while Chris Serr finished comfortably in second. Matt Goth outdueled Jason Marko for third.

VanDerostyne double dipped in the WISSOTA Hornet ranks, winning both 12-lap main events. Dylan Tirrel finished second in the makeup feature and Bradley Rossow was third; those two drivers swapped podium positions in the other main event.

Rookie driver Konner Sperle scored his first-career feature win in the Gen X Late Model main event. He was hounded all race by Curt Kranz, who finished second ahead of Bodie Croninger.
